If you use Audacity, try the "Change Tempo" effect, which allows you to change the speed of a song without affecting its pitch. If you take Call Me and My Sharona in their slowed-down state and apply this to boost their tempos by 4-6%, it improves them significantly IMO. They still have that low, sloppy charm to them, but their rhythms never feel like they're dragging. My Sharona especially sounds better with a good 6% boost.
