I love that all this plan ended up doing was narrowing the field down to three candidates, thus scuppering their initial scheme of bloating the candidate list with socialists. Barbara is back to just about exactly where she started.

Nope now her vote is the vote that's split

I think the Skyggemyrians know about some crazy event and decided to keep Lyndon around to witness it and become an advocate for whatever they’re doing in the real timeline. I’m not convinced we’re seeing how the scepter’s death vision sausage is simulated, though. But I guess that’d require a very Thorsby explanation to get out of the scepter timeline, since Lyndon ultimately getting killed would have just given him that vision initially.

Only in the real timeline.

:aaaaa: Ok good point, but no one who’s touched the scepter had any context for their death. If people witnessed the lead up then the crew wouldn’t have been confused about their visions of being killed by each other. I figured Lyndon was on to it with his immortal comment, but maybe the scepter really is broken.

why do you think were not getting any scenes from Lyndon's perspective as far as he knows this isn't happening

Whatever just started happening is probably the event that little yellow Skyggemyrian said Audrey wouldn’t believe until she saw it. Seems like she’ll be the one with the vision when we snap back to the original timeline. I’m so curious how the scepter’s power transferred to her and how much she’ll remember.

This has been interesting, but I hope Thorsby’s explanation isn’t too contrived.

It could just be a not related to the sceptre event that the Skyggemyrian knew about because of previous sceptre delves.

the stars probably vanish shortly before the person having the vision dies, sort of the universe starting to fall apart backwards in time. that happened before the ambassador died and it’s happening now because Lyndon is almost dead

That would require the sceptre to actually have precognitive powers of it could actually tell you when you die why would it need to do a simulation of the universe

because it’s the most thorsby way of doing things? if the scepter is creating a simulation which then disappears when you go back to reality it IS predicting the future, it’s just doing it on an ongoing basis. Remember the visions are actually instant in the “real” world.

I dunno, I could be wrong, but I think the stars going out is a precursor to the vision ending.

That just means it has a vast degree of processing power.

The stars disappearing being a sign of the simulation going on too long and it only stimulating a set area of space is more likely

I think thorsby originally had a plan for why the stars vanished in the simulation but realised it doesn't actually make sense so he's just going with "I don't know why, but the simulation is just imperfect"

The world isn't exactly advanced in astrophysics the 5 and a bit light year sphere is a viable explaintion

So that's why they have to keep our dumb mage guy alive! Some of those fake beings have learned that they're inside a fake universe and try to keep him alive as long as possible, to extend their existence since they all blink out as soon as he keels over!

How the hell are you only just getting this?
Have you even been reading the comic?

I've done the math - the simulation has a radius of 1.8 parsecs.

(Someone else previously figured out that the simulation simulates a sphere around the world that contains not stars besides the sun, so when the still-traveling starlight runs out, that's it. In our universe, the nearest star besides our Sun is Proxima Centaur, 4.367 light years away, so the comic's setting's nearest non-sun star must be further away.)

Well no stars that appear in the night sky on the hemisphere that both nations are on

So here's the thing we don't know if this world will end when Lyndon dies, we just know that Lyndon will get a vision of his death.

Also from the hair styles it looks like it was around the marriage to the stock broker that Audrey get arrested, and her success time is around when she married Lyndon again.
