I would say fleeing slavery counts as being a refugee.

I've already seen stuff about the salmon. With regards to American refugees, what about all the oppressed Americans supposedly fleeing to Canada after every election? Do they count?

You should counter that wild salmon stocks are near extinction levels, so if you want your artisan sushi, you're going to have to go without salmon or accept the GMO. also http://i.imgur.com/uMr8izR.jpg Lets put a literal war criminal in charge of the military! And this is pretty much a recipe for WW3 where the entire world aligns against the US.

A week or so ago someone on here mentioned International Men's Day and I was hoping some stuff would come up. But the only thing I've seen relating to it is this http://i.imgur.com/v09FmND.jpg I guess there's nothing because nobody actually cares about a Men's Day, they just want to complain when there's a Women's Day. at least the comic is pretty cute! It's true, the idea that the future could possibly be worse than the past is exclusively a 21st century idea. Also, what is that supposed to be? Nuclear wasteland? Because that specific fear has been going on since the cold war.

I have a few friends on Facebook pretty much circle-jerking off to how absolutely amazing Putin is. These are friends who live in Canada and the USA. It's kind of weird to see. They usually post some comment from Obama about compassion or some such bullshit and then one from Putin saying something like if Muslims came to his country they wouldn't be allowed to practice religion or how the proper response to terrorism is to level a country, and my friends would ask why their president can't be more like Putin. It's kind of bizaare to see people idol-worshipping Putin outside of Russia.

There's something maybe worth noting about the fact that we don't have a lot of optimistic sci-fi right now that isn't a franchise that's been going since the 70s or earlier, but this is the most hilariously incorrect 90s nostalgia I've ever seen. The 90s were a fairly happy time overall, sure, but sci-fi was where a lot of its bleaker stuff went.
