I dunno, I have a feeling that might have been intentional - there's a scene where the primary antagonist throws a massive tantrum and Stormtroopers just back off to let him calm down. :v:

This guy is unusual - he posts a lot of "edgy atheist" stuff, denies stuff like the fact that not all Christians are young earth creationists, that Christians have been motivated to make valuable advances in science, the arts and other discplines because of their faith, mocks summarised versions of Bible stories without actually knowing the text, your basic r/atheism stuff, but then he's always defending muslims and the koran?

Also on my friends list, I have a muslim guy who thinks that islamic terrorism and ISIS is all made up by the media to discredit muslims (he seems to think that IS either isn't real, or is a peaceful country and the media makes up all the crimes against humanity) - he also posts crisis actor memes and thinks that Tila Tequila is being targeted by the illuminati for exposing the truth about the New World Order. (This is an actual conspiracy theory - a few years ago, Tequlia had an OD and suffered brain damage, and now writes word salad online. It's pretty sad, but there are people who think she's speaking the truth, because I guess the illuminati lets reality TV stars in now). He also thinks that the Paris attacks weren't real. I.....don't know.

Show don't tell, goddammit.

Dude called Ed Milliband, the opposition leader in the UK, got plastered all over the papers eating a bacon sandwich. You know when you get a bit of fat caught in your teeth and don't quite bite a chunk off, so you have to chomp a couple more times to avoid pulling an entire bit of bacon out? Yeah, that lost him an election.

He still gets poo poo for it even now when the papers don't have any actual grievances to air. I mean I don't give too many bollocks about politics here as a rule, but of all things to vilify an opposition leader with you focus on their sandwich eating capabilities. :psyduck:

It's funny because this is one of those images where the inherent message is actually pretty neat - "don't treat retail employees like poo poo" - but comes across as so insufferably smug I want to side against the person just because.

I love how ridiculous these things are. Like, if you have a glass of wine with dinner each night and a couple of beers on the weekend, that's more than your 8 drinks a week. If you have three beers in three hours? That's over four standard drinks and you're binge drinking. Oh, and "might be pregnant"? So I guess if you're a woman who's had sex with a man recently, no drinks for you. You never know!

What silly decisions do you think a person is likely to make if they have a glass of wine with dinner? Or *GASP* three beers in an afternoon!? I wasn't saying that you can drink as much as you want and be fine, I'm saying the amounts they specify in their guidelines are absurdly low.

Fair enough, but doesn't the character start off identifying and presenting as male? Similar to Breakfast on Pluto, where we see the main character transitioning slowly. Then again, I haven't seen The Danish Girl, so maybe I'm not the best person to talk about it.

It's a bit of a weird issue as Lili was physically male right up until just before her death (HRT obviously wasn't a thing and given the surgery, complications and evasiveness which were involved...) but lived as, identified as, presented as and was acknowledged as a woman. If accuracy in that respect is the main issue for some people I can't think of any actors who would fit the pre-OP, pre-HRT "criteria".

The historical accuracy of the film was pretty bogus though, but a lot of people get hung up on the actors involved rather than how it fudged relationships and altered how Lili's friends and loved ones reacted to her.

I mainly don't want it to suck and bomb because you just know that, if it does, it'll be pinned on the female focus of it rather than any actual weaknesses in the script or performances.

I'm seeing a similar thing with Fury Road in some places - if you dislike the film it's clearly because you hate women, or have a paid up membership to the MRA division of Reddit. It's like, what? Yeah there are going to be people who dislike a film for silly reasons, but trying to lump all criticism of something into being motivated by Hatred of [Thing] is pretty weird.

People can dislike stuff simply because they don't gel with it.
