I tried to get in contact with him while he was in Atlanta to see if he'd like to do the Audi 90, but couldn't reach him :ohdear:

I was right on his route for the road trip but another MS6 owner had already hit him up.

Well, a PPPPPO did. After running 29 events the car changed hands a ton of times but hadn't raced since 2002. Nothing's seriously wrong with it but it'll need some work to get up to current NASA spec. At the very least it'll need a completely new DOM tube cage (currently chromoly) and it was let through tech at Sandblast just because of the race history behind the car. It was a bit of a scramble to get a new inlet restrictor machined the day before the race and at idle it was causing some nasty oil leakage from the compressor side piston rings. Since it'll be properly sized for the current level of inlet restriction, the new EFR shouldn't have any problems.

So it runs on rocket fuel? :)

It's more that the gasket was vaporized by the car sitting in what amounted to a desert in California for most of the 80s and 90s. Seriously, the place was called "High Desert Auto Salvage" and it's just sand as far as the eye can see:

The gasket had sort of curled up in agony from the heat and was pushing on that main red gear.

I have a friend who worked at a place like this. The land was dirt cheap so their only cost was the scrap cars. I think it was like 46 acres or something, the closest town was 45 minutes down the road.

The Manta is a fantastic car, they handle much better than the GTs. It's a shame we never got any of the cool Manta A special editions or the Manta B at all in the states, they had a great rally career including my favorite moment with Ari Vatanen:
