This is a good game and more people should play it. Even if it's only to make fun of really retarded submarine guys who don't get what a arming time is.

I'm sort of digging the differences for torpedoes from WoWs. Significantly larger arming time and no lead indicator means there's a real reason to launch spreads. With the single torp option, you can basically make a custom width spread pretty easily to hedge your predictions. Large but not excessive limited ammo, so you can't just spam them on longshot blind guesses, but you can take the occasional low-probability shot.

What are the damage possibilities for a shallow sub? In my second game I took off alone for the back lines submerged, and had three enemy subs and two or three flights of dive bombers launching torps and bombs at me for about half the round, and nothing hit. Is it possible to get hit by torps or aircraft bombs while at the shallow submerged depth?

Yes. Shallow subs can be hit by torpedoes from anything. Deep dive subs can only be hurt by depth charges.

On the upside, that floatplane does some great scouting later in a match. Also motherfucking 8 tubes front makes it a monster at loving up BBs and carriers.

Fleet battles are open 2 hours each Wednesday and Saturday. The thing says 1100 to 1300, but doesn't give a timezone so who knows exactly when.

And the limitations vary from each size group, but the one we're probably gonna do the most is tier 2-4 and allows for 7-10 people. And if I remember right it has limitations on how many of each class and submarines can only be tier 2-3 for it. So as long as everyone doesn't try to get in with a bunch of carriers and subs you can bring whatever.

Oh and our main goal is to just figure out what fleet battles are like and to get on the ranking boards so we can get some extra rewards for just placing. So who cares what everyone brings or does as long as we actually get in.

I spent some money to do the 4 commander gold pick. It seems to always give at least one 3 star or higher guy. He's actually so nice I'm swapping over to the U-Boat line since he makes up for all their short comings.

So far I've gotten to tier 5 in German BBs, and Tier 4 in US CAs, German Subs, Nip/US DDs. I've enjoyed all of the ships quite a lot. Might check out the German CAs via the gold / tier swap thing. Not sure yet :).

I haven't been too terribly impressed by the German CAs so far. They're basically shittier versions of the Japanese CA line. Really the whole German tree is just kind of lackluster. They're at the spot where they're not unplayable, but they just don't fill any role as well as the other nations.

This is a pretty good submarine game. But as a heads up everyone is trying them out so trying to platoon with people in a sub can take ages. Like 70 subs in queue during primetime.

Jup, checks out.

Even if he wasn't the dreamboat he is in game, he is at least stupid loving strong. I just got him up to level 3 and his active ability is so good. Its cooldown is about as long as it takes to get enough command stars back to use it, so roughly every 75 seconds I'm doing 5% more torp damage. It's made it so anything that lets me get right outside of the torp arming range dies.

This might be my highest damage game yet thanks to the dumb stuff he lets me pull off. And he's only level 3 right now, once he hits 7 I don't even know if I will be able to play any other ship.

Yes, I do this all the time in my cruisers. Just quickly look in the direction you need with the weapon selected, then hold right click or switch weapons to look around.

Do the events that give merit and save up for a 10 roll. The events that give commanders for hitting certain tiers aren't bad either.

Just as a friendly reminder if you nailed a sub with one torpedo and your sub has full health ramming them will kill them.

Basically always be ramming subs whenever the opportunity presents itself. Your speed barely seems to matter, even just a glancing love-tap from a CL may instantly kill them.

I've found that the American tier 3 sub's hull is perfect for this because a side scrape will hit a sub two or three times for 100ish damage per hit. It's really the only thing that's fun in the drat thing.

So as it turns out all the tier 4 subs are fun. The Cachalot is kind of poo poo without the turbine upgrade, but after that it turns into a pretty good flanker. And the two rear end tubes makes it fantastic in anti-sub and clowning on bad destroyers.

So as a heads up when you build a building in the fleet you donate twice the materials required to activate that buff. So the biggest silver one is 25k and donates 50k to the fleet. You can do this once a week and it gives only you a nice buff.

I have no idea how to depth charge, how the gently caress do you maneuver your boat right above a submarine?

it's easier when another sub has them lit up for you. Also don't bother if other enemies can fire at you, it's safer to just try and torp them at that point. And most ships can also reverse faster than a sub can move while underwater, so just chasing them with your rear end works pretty well.

XENA I LOVE YOU
Sep 11, 2010

So to bring up depth charge chat again, don't use them past tier 3 unless you know it's a 1v1 situation and you wont ever get 250 meters from the sub's front or back. My U-boat has a 230 meter safe range on its rear end torpedo tube, so the second a destroyer fucks up it's eating a 790 damage torpedo it can't see in time to dodge.

Just torpedo them or wait for them to come up for air. It's way faster and safer than trying to get 2-3 depth charges landed for a kill.

I wanted to play the Japanese ones because, just because. However, on getting to t4 I find it's bigger than a bloody destroyer, slower than the one before and doesn't turn too well. Now you lot are writing that they stay that size now? I may change lines for subs before I get too invested. Pity because I had some great games in the I-4.

They get kind of smaller and thinner with the 6 tube subs, but the 8 tube ones are still submersible destroyers. The 6 tube ones also get engine upgrades that let them go 25 knots on the surface. So with a good sub crew you're looking at close to 30 knots on the surface and 24-26 under. They can also kill low health destroyers with ramming damage, and the 6 tube ones can get right up to other subs and keep ramming them to death with their superior speed and weight.

The 8 tubes ones aren't bad as long as you can keep a good distance from other subs and destroyers. They really excel at spotting poo poo with their 4 minutes of air and being able to take apart a battleship cluster real quick. And you can switch them to salvo fire to make a stupid tight wall of torpedoes that even U-boats have a hard time dodging without going deep. Basically make sure friendly battleships can shoot where you're at and don't be afraid to call for help if destroyers or cruisers start getting too close.

Oh and I almost forgot, because we use less air, you can dive down/surface under on a sub and pin them on you until they drown and they can't do a thing about it.
