For all those looking into CVs:
Bombing is hard as gently caress. You cannot do strikes like you do in WoWs. AA is super deadly, and there is no real assist like autoaim.

You do however get actually a lot of points for spotting. So as CV you are more of a support.

You can select your plane loadout and start your planes in strike groups.

After some more testing, it kinda seems like CVs are all around a bit poop right now, at least at lower levels. Planes will die pretty much instantly the moment they get into range of any kind of AA, meaning that all of them are pretty much suicide squadrons.

You get a lot of XP for spotting damage. The beginning is a bit eh. Try to spot targets carefully.

After groups have been split start hunting and lighting up the enemy

Sink flagship to win, no respawns. You get 5 minutes after your flagship is destroyed to blow up theirs for a tie.

Night Battles where no one can see far and you can pop flares

Normal capture the point

Death match with respawns, first to so many kills win.

This game is turning more and more into Navyfield, at least from the gamemodes.
I like that.

I am enjoying the Konigsberg 1927. I put on the gyroscope and the pressure cycle driver but not sure I need either. The ship is just what I would expect from a CL.

It is a huge step up from any other CL in it's class. The triple barrels mage a huge difference in accuracy. I often get rather longs shots where I hit up to 6+ times.

It reloads fast, it aims decently fast, the turrets turn fast.
It has a slim profile, good AA guns, a decent amount of torpedos and depth charges.

That and the fact the two batteries on the back are set apart looks cool as gently caress. In addition to that you can run away quite well since most of your firepower is actually in the back.

How is the game compared to world of warships? I love the concept of subs, and also played navyfield back in the day too.

It's usually more fast paced, actually more fun. The grind isn't as bad. You have to manually control your secondaries and AAA. Planes are not bullshit OP because they can't spot too well and get absolutely shredded by any kind of AAA fire.
No torpedo aim indicator.

A mix of Battlestations Pacific + Navyfield + WoWs.

Has anyone experimented with using HE ammo on any ships against any targets? I keep telling myself I should try to load HE when shooting at Destroyers with larger ships, but I never remember to do it in the heat of the moment.

I got some decent results with HE.
But not in the sense like WoWs. If it doesn't penetrate it doesn't destroy anything and starts 100 fires. The damage against hard targets remains low.

(Edit) I've been equipping my ships with one set each of fire extinguisher, repair parts and smoke bombs, but fires have been so uncommon I'm thinking of swapping out the extinguisher for more smoke as 3 can get used up awfully fast. What are other people carrying in their utility item slots?

That is the standard loadout. Subs usually switch the extinguisher for the modified air pump but that's it.

On that note, do we already have some estimation what the best/worst ways to spend small sums of gold are? Gold ammo an consumables seem like far and away the worst, but what about camo or flags?

Gold ammo becomes kinda a bit for T5 BBs since they add a lot of pen and 40 damage. At least for the Nevada.

Other than that premium matches, taking off equipment and flags.

So as an old Navyfield player. How much is this game like it?

Well, anything that isn't a BB, SS or CV actually has a use even in higher tier games.
Gun selection is WoT like. But the stock equipment is usually very good as well. I am kinda happy/sad about that. On one hand, choosing your guns for your ship is cool, on the other hand, Navyfield did it awful.

CVs are a good mix of WoWs and NS. You get a certain amount of slots. Each slot can have one type of plane in the air. You can select how many you want to start per squad.

AA is manual, but you get an aim marker that is sometimes correct. Automatic AA still exists.

To be fair T4 is the current main tier. You will find the most matches. T5 is kinda bare and 6...well, yeah.

So I would keep your 4s, get some XP and money with them, and after the pubbies move on, do the same as well.

I wanted to play the Japanese ones because, just because. However, on getting to t4 I find it's bigger than a bloody destroyer, slower than the one before and doesn't turn too well. Now you lot are writing that they stay that size now? I may change lines for subs before I get too invested. Pity because I had some great games in the I-4.

Japanese subs get the best torpedos which have no problem wrecking anything smaller than a BB in one or two hits.

It's not a bad line at all. It comes down to what you like more.

The game is certainly more balanced than WoWs.

I haven't really had problems one shotting battleships even in my Japanese sub. If you hit them just in front of the midpoint of the ship, you always seem to hit a power magazine or something and just blow them up completely. It's super satisfying

Less satisfying in my low tier Japanese sub is hitting something and leaving it at 15hp, where it then proceeds to juke around me unless they're crap enough I can just ram them to death.

All I can tll is drive whatever you think looks best because:
A. That's the most important thing
B. I have the feeling the game is okay balances
C. Grind is low
