I'm not on a Samsung phone, but their Health app is "surprisingly good" for that. In the past I used Livestrong which had by far the best database of food, but I think stuff like Samsung Health has caught up since.

Is there anyway to have a rotating album of images as a lock screen, independent from the wallpaper? It seems the only way to keep it separate/different from the live wallpaper is to use a single static image. (OnePlus 9P)

Still using Nova happily ... that $5 or so has lasted me over ten years. I guess I'll check out Niagara ... $30 isn't much for how much use/time I get out of these things. Like spending money on a nice keyboard/mouse, the launcher is worth it for how much I interact with my phone. Sidenote, still using this wallpaper since discovering it nearly ten years ago: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joko.paperlandpro edit: ^^ like what they said

I see the appeal of Niagara -- it looks amazing, but it doesn't do at all what Nova does for me. In Nova, I have all my regular apps nicely arranged on a home screen, with the ones I need to access one-handed easily reachable (the porn ones). Also widgets for information I always want at a glance. I basically use the standard app drawer as my "hidden" folder in Niagara's paradigm. I have a second page of just games and widgets, mostly for controlling sound, and my third page is my work-related poo poo. If Nova becomes unusable for me I have no idea what I would replace it with. Maybe the stock launchers.

Uthor posted:This is also what I use since getting rid of Nova. The only thing I don't like about it is the folder icons are over-sized and don't seem configurable. Also not major, but weirdly adding widgets they're set double the height than they should be. Can be fixed after they're placed though. Just a nuisance if your screens are already near full.

It's literally just those 1.5 things for me. I even got another row of launcher icons to use as the built in weather widget is half the height of the one I had been using. Unfortunately not enough to get rid of my folders heh. But the folders are really key to not giving a gently caress about the app drawer. That said, this was also a good opportunity to purge unused old apps. edit: one small bug, seems I cannot rearrange the left-most page no matter what. Oh well. I also like having one entirely blank page to gaze at my live wall paper when bored, but this won't let you. Not exactly a dealbreaker lol. teethgrinder fucked around with this message at 16:26 on Dec 6, 2023 |

After losing HD Widgets I went on a mission to find one I liked. Been happy with Today Weather. Still use a 4x1 row from it for the upcoming week's predictions. The app forecast screen clicking through from the widget are really detailed and nicely laid out as well.

I like and got used to Hyperion's differences, but I think I've got to switch back to Nova for the time being. Hyperion is driving me nuts with apps/widgets frequently not activating when I tap them, until I change pages or do some other OS thing like open the app-switcher momentarily.

I came across those again too, thought it might be time to maybe give Paperland a rest after using it since an S2. I used the Maxelus Galaxy Pack before, and on my Nexus 7. Looks like there are some newer versions now. After trying a bunch of new-to-me live wallpapers (they don't seem to be particularly actively developed these days) I've been really happy with Forest. Pleasantly surprised it even reacted to NYE, even more dynamically than Paperland does. edit: Oh I forgot about Cartogram which I still really like. It's an optionally-live wallpaper you can use to create stylised maps of anywhere in the world or following your current location. teethgrinder fucked around with this message at 06:32 on Jan 7, 2024 |

Back to Nova. Hyperion is close to as good / great in functionality, but something about its performance is really hosed up. It can lag, and hitch, I think it's even crashing sometimes and reopening. It gets stuck frequently which is beyond annoying. Hyperion makes it feel like "bad android phone" but literally none of the performance problems with Nova.

Yeah you pay for Pocket Casts to do the sync for you. But otherwise it does all that.

Ah, 7.61.1 here still. But I got an idea from here: https://www.reddit.com/r/pocketcasts/comments/1c5hhqx/had_no_idea_theyd_find_a_way_to_make_the_widget/ Yikes.

I am a diehard Pocket Casts user, love the sync between my devices. I use it like once every two months but can't believe it's even on my watch. A weird thing with the discovery feature is a friend's podcast does not show on the Canadian charts whatsoever and he's pinged them a few times to make sure he's listed -- he's high on the Apple ones.
