There Is No Death is the debut album from proto-progressive-post-rock artists Sole Survivor Policy. At 58 minutes in length, its single track, "from the disheartening eccentricities of a literature which meanders in a thousand frivolous directions", exposes to the listener a soundscape that must be experienced repeatedly to be truly appreciated.

John Gilbert gave up his baseball career to explore his passion for music. His songs are treatise on love and relationships and feature unforgettable lyrics, such as "You can, after all, produce an orgasm yourself if that's what you want, so we must go to bed for something more." 6.8/10 from Pitchfork Media; described by Tiny Mix Tapes as "up-tempo acid-folk with a touch of Weezer"

Did a bit of image manipulation on this one. Wasn't needed but I figured it made it look a mite better. Original image here

Japanese hipster rock, in broken english. edit: I kinda miss record stores now. There's some albums here I'd love to listen to based on their covers alone. I'm pretty sure Mauritania Airways is just my jam. R.S. Gumby fucked around with this message at 18:28 on Nov 19, 2015 |

Snippet from Pitchfork's review last week (they gave it a 7.6): It almost seems cliché for metal bands to incorporate influences from decidedly non-metal genres in 2015, a year that brought us new releases from Deafheaven, Liturgy, and more obscure bands from the depths of Bandcamp and their own independent distribution platforms. Shoegaze, post-rock, indie rock; even Sega Genesis MIDI tracks aren't safe from artists tweaking their formula to suit the barely delineated confines of the metal genre. So when alternative press touts a band like PS Normandy as "the next big thing in metal", one can't help but raise a suspicious yet intrigued eyebrow. What can this band do that countless wannabe Burzums haven't already?

I remember seeing countless CD covers like this in record stores by artists nobody had ever heard of and usually only appeared on compilations without ever having their own album release... it's got to sound like some of that house music that was so popular with the candy ravers back in the mid 90's original photo winter.mute fucked around with this message at 20:47 on Nov 19, 2015 |
