Man, i'm finally getting around to reading Kuro and i'm somewhat alarmed to find that it's pretty much about the very thing i've been trying to make my avatars about.

i.e. "oh it's a cat"
...

"no wait it's some sort of black ghost/monster just shaped like a cat!"

Has the author of "the Dragon's seven adorable children" done any other works? I can swear I know there is another manga out there with a similar body style and face style as that author except this one is about a dungeon and cooking.
The one you're thinking of is Dungeon Meshi, and yes indeed it's by the same guy.

Also, Dungeon Meshi is super fantastic. It's about a group of poor D&D style adventurers who decide that in order to save money and time, they will just eat all the monsters on the way to rescue one of their party members.

Solanin is great, however it does deal with loss and grief so it might not be what you're looking for right now. And, unlike a lot of his other stuff, it doesn't have any odd or otherworldly twists to it. Nijigahara Holograph is also fantastic, and definitely has some Weird poo poo going on, but is very emotionally heavy . Both are easily purchasable. I haven't read Goodnight, Punpun yet, I might grab volume one now that it's out (or coming out soon, I forget)

Dude doesn't really do "happy" though.

Dead Dead Demons D-D-D-D-D-. The real mystery here is how Ouran apparently turned from a normal-ish girl to being a strange, brainless person. It's kind of hard to think of her as a college student, even though that's what's stated.

I'm in a weird spot where i can't decide if i should re-read dddddd(etc) from the beginning, or just give up on it entirely.

Man Nichijou starts out pretty differently, spoilers sorta kinda Nano is in school from the get-go and the rest of the cast knows she's a robot, but she doesn't know they know.

It's good though!

Does Nicjihou still work without random bursts of sakuga? That and the comedic timing made that show what it was.

I wasn't sure it would either, to be honest. But, it does.

The art style shifts around and it's not like comics are a strange format for comedy.

Demi-chan wa Kataritai, with Demi being ateji for the kanji 亜人(ajin), basically a word for not-quite-humans (and is often translated as demi-human). It basically means "Demi-chan wants to talk," but with a nuance of them having specific/important things they want to tell [someone], not just idle conversation.

"Interviews with Monster Girls" is a bad title imo because 1.) it takes away the agency of the Demis that's present in the original title (they have something they want to do vs. "interviews with"), and 2.) a decent portion of the story is about fitting in and discrimination and such (the whole "they want to be called demi, not ajin" thing being an obvious example), so just flat out calling them Monsters in the title feels really out of touch with the themes and tone of the work.
