American Pie (the song) puts into context the emotions of one little boy on the day following the death of Ronnie Van Zandt, I don't really see what the problem here is. The jester he mentions is clearly Dana Carvey and the time the players couldn't take the field was in reference to Major League Baseball suspending some games following the attacks on the World Trade Centre.
