I remember growing up with GBA version of the first game. Its version of the map screen (which lacked the weird tinging in the background) is burned into my head more than it's snes counterpart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2dqBWsriYc

Dr. Fetus posted:Incidentally, the Wii version changed the "plot" from DK beating things up for the heck of it to, animals stole his bananas, get them back. Clearly historical revisionism in action. The revisionism was far more blatant than that. Apparently the Wii version's plot is that the 4 kongs (Dread, Karate, Ninja, and next world's) had stolen the bananas, not from DK, but from the white furred monkeys and our Glorious Leader was helping the little monkey's out. I never played the Wii version, but I think that there was also the implication that the four evil kongs were brainwashed by Cactus/Ghastly King Sounds like a bunch of Propaganda if you ask me

Fun Fact: In the Japanese version Cactus King and Ghastly King have the exact same name (and are presumably the same being): Final Kong

Rabbi Raccoon posted:And good on Kirkhope for finding success. Well Kirkhope already had a good career even before DK64: He had done stuff for Donkey Kong Land 2 and Goldeneye, he was doing the music for Project Dream (which eventually became Banjo Kazooie), and his first big success (Banjo Kazooie) came before DK64. Fun Fact: the gloomy galleon theme was a song composed for project dream (specifically it was Captain Blackeye's theme) Another Fun Fact: while the DK Rap was not translated in the Japanese version, there was a translation on Shigesato Itoi's website http://www.1101.com/nintendo/nin9/nin9_1.htm Yapping Eevee posted:I think this summarises that pretty well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mX1JAcF1g7I
