Yeah sorry John that isn't making me feel very reassured at all.


I was told by a friend of mine who works at the ATO it wasn't unheard of a few years ago for the police to seek out the ATOs help in some instances where they couldn't get a warrant to search a premises. Pretty much they'd ask the ATO for help who'd send an official request for police presence at their "investigation" and the police would circumvent the law. I don't know if this is still the case because it was over ten years ago but yeah the ATO can pretty much do what they want.
