An actual election would probably end with the Communists winning in a landslide. It isn't happening. Our best hope is to use Minh as our "bad cop," who will remain in power unless there are massive concessions for the Catholics and nationalists in the South.

B, D

Civil rights is much too divisive an issue in times as trying as these. Taking a strong stance now is just going to rile up congress at a time when we have to appear large and in charge. Give civil rights lip service but keep congress guessing as to our new administrations true goals for this issue while we shore up political loyalties and try to stem the tide in Vietnam.

D - Keep US force levels the same and puppet regime in place but increase covert operations inside North Vietnam while speeding up our training and recruitment of a South Vietnamese army. Begin gathering intelligence with the goal of widespread assassination of key communist military and political officials over the coming months - let's try and cut the head off the snake before it has a chance to bite. It won't stop the communist threat in the long term, but we can try and stall the north long enough to train an effective force capable of defending itself without the help of our own troops.

Agreed, I want this CYOA to go on for a while, and nuking Vietnam would change things so radically that we'd be completely out of known history right from the start. (Also it's pretty much going against the entirety of LBJ's persona given the Daisy Ad.)

Maybe rakovsky maybe could do a small "in the fever dreams of Barry Goldwater" addenda/non-canon update where the nukes do fall, so that "use nukes" isn't constantly popping up w/r/t our new handling of Vietnam (unless we end up doing what LBJ did anyway:v:).

Agreeing with this choice, with the addendum that LBJ is gonna whip Jumbo out to force Ho Chi Minh to submit to his will.

If the "nuke them" (who? North Vietnam who we aren't at war with? South Vietnam our ally?) option had won I probably would have treated it more like a Nixonian mad bomber scheme where LBJ tries to come off as a stringent anti-communist who might use tactical nukes in Vietnam unless all sides come to the table. Or something like that.

i googled to find out if lbj could cuck ho chi minh but apparently he left his wife behind in china when he was exiled and despite a few attempts at contact they died never seeing each other again. the vietnamese regime invested a lot in rhetoric about ho's celibacy, apparently, because it exemplified his devotion to the project of socialism in vietnam, so they still deny her existence to this day

anyway be warned, any attempt to cuck ho chi minh would backfire
