Peek n' poke and play like a really fast medium instead of a slow, fat light. The 2B with MPLs is my favorite, and the 3M is my second. Use your awesome laser quirks to your advantage and just get the hell out of dodge if it gets too hot.

I've had some weirdly good matches in the variant that's a walking UAC5.

So what's particularly awful about the Mad Dog?

I'd have figured the one with 6 SRM6's would be a popular pick, at least after switching the arms.

There's something weirdly amusing about about the fact that MWO of all things has created a context wherein the Blackjack, Jagermech, and Hellbringer are actually good, useful choices instead of horrible disappointments.

To be fair, playing this piece of poo poo would probably be preferable to playing an Awesome. At least with you can lie to your team and say "Oh poo poo guys, the mechlab didn't save my build!"

There're 42 1/2 tons of machinegun ammo in that.

the mechlab also doesn't show the oily rags, dryer lint, and old hoverboards stuffed into every seam.

Old battletech is goofy metaplot and weird Buckaroo Banzai references and hells of racist stereotypes.

New battletech metaplot got rid of a lot of the weird references and racism but also stopped being goofy in lieu of basically being gritty space robit ASOIAF.

I am legit disappointed we did not get the Kraken. 100 slow-rear end tons of 14 high-mounted ballistic hardpoints or 8 high-mounted ballistic hardpoints or 8 high-mounted missile hardpoints. Minimum.

One of the stock Krakens comes with 8 LRM-15s, which means pubbies would never modify that one and they'd be easy kills after shutting down instantly from a single alpha. :haw:
I'm not sure what the redesign would look like considering the original art is the robot equivalent of anime flounder face.

edit: that redesign :o:

Tying it to the invasion era wasn't such a bad thing.

It was going with the whole REAL TIME thing that was boneheaded since that pretty much precludes them from time-skipping to points where better tech and designs come in.

I look forward to getting IS Streak 4's, 6's and ER Mediums sometime in 2021.

Has anyone had a chance to dig through this? Some of the clans are actually getting some changes other than removing negative quirks.

For example:
Garg B Left Arm:
Additional Armor +13
Additional Structure +13
Missile Velocity +6%
LRM Spread -5%
SRM Spread -5%

Additional Armor +26
Missile Velocity +10%
LRM Spread -10%
SRM Spread -10%

Looks like its mostly mechs like the Kitfox, Summoner and Gargoyle, who frankly could do with some buffs.

I don't know how this whole mythology around PPCs being useless inside their minimum range has popped up when in the tabletop, the worst you're dealing with is equivalent to the medium range penalty.

The AC/5 has the same minimum range.

Special Munitions for the standard ACs were a thing. More or less meant to keep them relevant after Ultras and LBXs of all sizes came out. also RACs.

Caseless ammo in particular let you carry twice as many rounds but gave your gun a chance to jam.

Precision ammo negated some negative modifiers but you only carried half the ammo per ton, and with AP ammo you took a hit penalty and carried less per ton but had a chance to cause through-armor criticals on each hit. Then there were Flak and Flechette, which were specialist ammo types for anti-aircraft and anti-infantry, respectively.

Was it equally useless there, or was it different ages or something?
At some point it must have made sense to exist i think.

Under armored, and under-sinked if it wasn't under armed.

There were really good variants that came out with the Project Phoenix redesigns (dual RAC/5s :getin: and a fast dual lbx-10 brawler) but grogs hate new things.

The Jagermech was designed to be its replacement but was even shittier as a combat mech.

The Raptor is currently in-timeline.

3056-ish you get Omni versions of the Blackjack and Firestarter, plus the Perseus, Strider and Owens, which are more or less Omni-Orions, Cicadas and Jenners, respectively. Then there's the Avatar, Sunder and Black Hawk-KU which are IS takes on the Mad Dog, Summoner/Hellbringer, and Nova.

then around 3060 there's the Arctic Fox, Men Shen, Templar, and Hauptmann.

Then that's it till the Celestials during the Jihad.

So far I've seen three scenarios;

- Person gets the 65 million, doesn't spend it, has 58.5m of that refunded. They missed out, but didn't necessarily lose anything.

- Space-poor gets 65m, spends all of it, has account zeroed out, but keeps what was bought. They made out pretty well.

- Space-rich gets 65m, spends that money. Get to keep what they bought, but their account is still 58.5m less than it was. They got fuuuuucked.
