I am obsessed with winning paint colours in these events. Had fun pugging cw of all things last night, won about half my matches? Feels like any pug that can manage to stand in a place then move forward when someone says 'now' is good enough to be competitive.

Looking forward to the reviews that talk about 3pv like anyone still gives a poo poo. Ghost heat is dumb but they could mostly fix it with a big HEAT SPIKE sign.

Well you can't stop people review bombing f2p games, but you actually need to play the game on Steam (which involves buying if game's not free) to write review. I mean I won't but some people will. EXpect that chronojam timeline to get linked a lot.

given how niche mwo is I don't know if the numbers of rage-clotted mechgrogs are going to be sufficient to really tank its rating, but also given how bad PGI are at marketing they might not get that many new players rating it either? idk

When trying to play like a subpar nerd I found you have to have MC to buy the Mech you wanted and that jpeg was 30$??? Is this the normal? I'm assuming this is SC'eque and some sort of early access. We haven't all gone mad in this world and allowed this to be the new normal have we? (totally stole that line from Obama, thanks O)

You can play a free trial robot; they used to be terrible (really, really terrible) stock builds, now they're okay. If you play 25 matches you'll get enough Cbills to fit out one decent robot fully, which will include all of the roots that have been out for a while, the most recent few robots are only real money (MC). You get Cbills from playing rounds, probably ~100-200k per round once you're past the first 25 matches

Its not terribly suspicious. They've been making good improvements over the past year but most of it has been little stuff here and there. Biggest change prior to this last patch was probably the mechlab 3.0 or the tutorial. Its really annoying that what amounts to XML changes was so low on their priorities when it made such a massive improvement to the game though. Huge dick move on their part.

Remember the PTS though. There was a huge, game wrecking set of changes that they tried then backed off from when they were clearly dumb.

It's the second bit that's new.

Ghost heat, which still needs some tweaking, is a pretty good fix to keep Alpha strikes of craziness down.

That being said, this recent patch against acceleration and torso twisting was just loving stupid and it would have made more sense for them to double armor per mech and double armor per ton if they actually changed it to increase survive time.

I'm willing to blame a lot of MWO's ills on simple incompetence, but this decision I just can't understand. No one can be that stupid.

I think it's a fundamental failure of imagination. The core game is so strong and the visual aspect of watching games after you die already so compelling, it's bizarre they haven't made the leap into a fictional niche that's already there for them.

I've built an Ebon Jaguar that has two ac/10s, and LRM 5 and a medium laser. She has two ballistic hardpoints, one energy hardpoint, two missile hardpoints, and an ACM hardpoint. Her max tonnage is 65.

That's a bad build because it's bitsy: the ml and the lrm are just a waste of space. Decided what range you want to fight at and stack weapons to hit that range. Maybe swap out the lrm and ml for a large pulse, if you can fit it?

So, finally played my first match. Won it and actually got a few kills and all I got was a red arm. I'm at 5.6m creditsComStar Bills and I'm thinking of building this. Just how much of a bad idea is this? I just want to shoot lots of bullets and missiles. I don't really like energy weapons, so if someone has a better recommendation than that more than likely terrible design feel free to share it.

Also, I want to join a goon group. I don't care which one. I guess whichever sends an invite first. I'm PureRok in-game.

That's pretty bad, tbh, though in a good and hilarious way. Ammo explodes, so you want to put it in your legs for preference - your build will basically explode into a million pieces the instant any damage gets past your armour as the ammo all cooks off.

Streaks aren't that strong, (though they do track) so I'd swap the SSRMs for dumbfire SRM4s. Take four tons of ammo to start with, you can add more if you find yourself running out.

Put one ton of MG ammo in your head, MGs are great fun but only effective as a finisher - they do almost no damage to armour but get a nice boost on blowing up components once the armour's gone.

AMS isn't a requirement - if you're short on tonnage, ditch it and save some tons.

Your tactics would be hanging a bit behind an assault, then firing a few loads of rockets into its target until it's softened up then picking a stripped component and MGing teh poo poo out of it as you rocket.

Another note: If you EVER take streaks as a primary/secondary (NEVER as a 3rd choice though) weapon, you HAVE to bring a counter for ECM. gently caress AMS, ditch it and the ammo for a Beagle. Hell, you're building a brawler anyway, toss a beagle in there even without streaks.

IS streaks are terrible because there are only 2 missles. Streaks hit near random parts and have -0- splash damage. Only clans should take streaks, and in the biggest size you can fit.

Once you get a feel for SRM's, you'll go artemis and never look back. It even makes packing on 3-4 of the 4-missle sized ones semi-viable.

MG's are fine with 3-4 of them at work. I fire them wildly, literally, the entire time I'm fighting people. It's annoying as heck, and by making the whole bot glow, they *might not notice what part I'm aiming for until the SRM's strip off it's armor.

* I don't really care, it's fun.

My Cent-AH should not exist and would get mocked by myself if I had seen it posted.

yeah mgs you basically hold down the fire key the moment you see a red triangle and don't let go until you run out of ammo or die
