Can anyone recommend me any good Japanese indie? Something lo-fi/jangle-ish, maybe? But whatever is cool. I'm laying over in Tokyo for a few days on the way home from an expedition and figured I'd pop by Disk Union to have a poke around.

Youtube is blocked on the ship, so yeah I can't listen to that at the moment, interesting though it sounds. But I'm not sure that's what I'm looking for. I was thinking maybe more along the lines of like Ykiki Beat/Hearsays/Ogre You rear end in a top hat. e: or Super VHS

Uh, I have a pretty specific question and I guess this is as good of a place as any to ask it.

Every once in a while, I see the song "WOW WAR TONIGHT" by "H Jungle with t /" referenced, and I don't really know the backstory to what was the deal with it.
From what I've understood from my limited Japanese knowledge it's some type of cult classic or something, that sold a lot? Haven't found any info in english.
Video of song: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x10mw2a_h-jungle-with-t-wow-war-tonight-pv_fun

Some covers:
Ayumi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC5bBTlKh9g
AKB48: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avZwOOyHtIk
AOA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AecI4tgb-TA
and there's a ton of less known artists covering it as well.

Anyone could give some insight in what the cultural significance is by this song?

Something to do with Downtown / Hey!Hey!Hey! Music Champ, if you're familiar with those guys or ever watched that show. I haven't seen it since I used to watch it back in the early 00s, so I don't recall. Maybe it was the theme song or something. The show was super popular, so I'm sure that has something to do with it. If you look through the related videos there, you'll see a video of Hamada (from Downtown) singing it.

e: ah that's also him in the Dailymotion link. I hadn't clicked it
