AUNT GWEN'S COLD SHAPE (!)

cuntvalet posted:

So I really loved Smashmouth's song "Walkin' on the Sun" so I thought it was fun when my friend posted some lyrics to it today on Facebook. Until I realized I've been mishearing it all of my life.

The actual lyrics are:

"It's just like any fad, it retracts before impact."

I've ALWAYS heard (and sang) it as:

"It's just like getting fat, it retracts before your back."

Seriously, I thought it was a cynical line about how trying to lose weight to appease society is hard cause it goes away everywhere but your back...okay so maybe now that I think about it, it doesn't really make sense.

I heard "retracts before impact" but also "getting fat." I also never bothered to actually think about the meaning of the song before this thead, I just always had it in my mental summer/hot day playlist :downs: smashmouth forever

Macy Gray's "Freak Like Me"
Apparently I've been really mishearing this one.
Actual: Sorry, that I'm late
I been searchin' for something great
Something to fill me up, he said, "Join the club"
Then we made love till my body ached

I heard, and because of the way it's enunciated, still hear "Your luck, love" instead of "Join the club," like letting her know she's in luck because he's just the man she's been looking for.

Mya's "My Love is Like... Wo"
actual line: My main goal is to please ya.
heard: My mango is depleted.

Frankie Valli, Grease is the Word
actual: They think our love is just a broken dream
heard: They think our love is just a frozen treat

I still sing that version instead of the real words. A love like a popsicle, sweet but sticky and fleeting.

My sister when she was a little kid thought in Mr. Sandman the line was "Mr. Sandman- bring me a drink!" thinking that Mr. Sandman was the guy behind the counter in one of those '50's soda shops, and the singer wants him to bring him a drink so he can sit and think about his girl. :kiddo:
