The IJA did dabble in (much) heavier tanks; http://sturgeonshouse.ipbhost.com/index.php?/topic/981-japans-box-tank-o-i/ Plus, I think they built a couple hundred Type 3 Chi-Nu tanks, which were pretty comparable to a Sherman (they all stayed in the home islands).

For SSBNs it makes sense, an Ohio is the 2nd closest thing to a battleship we have now in terms of naval dick extensions (and a fuckload higher in actual combat power).

Jaramin posted:Short version: not particularly, but the doctrine had other uses. By late 1945, it was pretty effective.

That is some seriously pro amphibious landing skills.

A 250 kilo bomb isn't going to do poo poo to Resolution at this point. Isn't it up to 70 bomb hits or some other bonkers number?

Ograbme posted:Your fighter pilots are dogshit. Yeah, that part where 43 Zeros went against a bunch of Hurricanes and Martlets and went 0-4 was pretty pro.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakovlev_Yak-15 It just kind of sucked and was lame. The Swedes also had the Saab 21R, which was much cooler.

In a stunning development, the counter to naval air power is ground forces. Pretty pumped for postwar navies to develop combat boarding vessels.

Magni posted:Ahh, so that's why those carriers at Guam are moving so slow, they got auntie Langley with them. As in CV-1 USS Langley, the first ever USN carrier. She's a WWI-era coal freighter that was converted in the 1920's into a carrier (and then into a seaplane tender in 1936). She can only do something like 16 knots. Perfect for putting into a fleet carrier group. It could be CVL-27, which was also named Langley; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Langley_(CVL-27)

loving TB-3s and SB-2s, the Soviets are really throwing old junk at you. (For reference, the TB-3 first flew in 1930 and was supposed to have been retired in 1939.)
