I did one of these last year, and somehow life kept throwing curveballs at me where I could not complete some of my stated goals (like getting extra work in the summer) but did complete other goals ahead of schedule (buying new used car in cash), so I guess it all worked out in the end  My 2016 goals are all over the place because I'm trying something new and scary. Definite goals: -Start a side business: in progress, on track -Max out Roth IRA: on track -Raise primary income by at least 5% Secondary goals: -Contribute to niece's college fund: on track -Figure out a better place to stash my savings now that I have a robust emergency fund, because see Pipe Dream Pipe Dream: -Grow side business enough to quit day job in 2 years (not a 2016 goal but I'm putting it here anyway dammit)
