Just caught up on the thread though I saw the movie with my nephew a few weeks ago. loving loved it. Also when talking about WH40K it's important to remember there are two eras of it. Back in the day it was a 100% tongue in cheek portrayal of fantasy tropes with a real 2000AD/Judge Dredd influence. Then it got huge in the late 80's through the late 90's with turbo sperglords and they retconned the poo poo out of it to become more serious as the autists aged.

Lazy Reservist posted:Yup. The Y-Wings were the primary bombers, while the X-Wings were the cover. The whole Death Star attack was very similar to naval aviation battles in WWII where torpedo bombers would make runs at ships while fighters covered them. Lucas drew a lot of inspiration from the WWII films he grew up watching, and the Death Star assault really shows it. Godholio posted:It's pretty well established that the trench scene was based on The Dam Busters, since it's basically a shot-for-shot remake. It's actually 633 Squadron that was the shot for shot remake, not Dambusters (although Dambusters was definitely an influence as well): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OZq-tlJTrU Here's the actual attack run scene for comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wCSAKAtktI

From what I've read, Disney was taken by surprise how much people liked Rey and they thought people would love Kylo Ren a lot more. So I'm guessing they are giving her more screen time.
