They started to hate "right to repair," and in the years I did computer service no computers made me bleed more than Mac products. From what I've seen in repair videos on YT, they're doing it now.

Thomamelas posted:I'd need to double check but I believe Dark Shadows was live to tape. They only had access to the videotape machines for 45 mins before the news department took them over. They did the show live-to-tape warts and all. Very rarely did they do a second take. They assumed no one would care since the show would only be seen once and viewers would probably not notice any mistakes. The show was as close to live theater as you could get (most of the actors were experienced stage performers). All the cast and crew have said what a blast it was to be under such presssure to get it right as best as they could. Most fans believe the flubs, both technical and perfomance, added a certain charm to the show.

FilthyImp posted:He'll, Dark Shadows only really took off because they accidentally Urkleized themselves when Barnabas came on. It's hard to recapture that kind of mojo. Dan Curtis (the show's creator) said they brought on Barnabas because his kids asked him to make the show scarier (they had previously had ghosts and a phoenix) and he figured "what the gently caress - I'm about to be canceled anyway". Barnabas was going to be staked in 13 weeks until the tons of fan mail started coming in. Jonathan Frid got the part purely by chance. He was coming home to his apartment in New York to pack up and go to California. He had not told anyone, including his agent, that he was back and he walked in just in time to answer his phone. It was his agent telling him about the part and Frid figured he could make few quick bucks.

"owning" your own physical media does little good if it's unreadable. I still have two of the first three CDs I bought in 1986 and both play perfectly.

Honestly didn’t have many problems with 95. This, but I suffered through Me as well. XP & 7 were perfect. Never had a single problem with the OS, but under 7 I had some wonky Nvidia drivers that would crash once per year.

I rescued a Leading Edge Model D, an ancient 8088 machine from the shredder today, and I'd like to get it going again, but it only outputs video over a 9-pin cable that I have to assume is CGA/EGA. That was my first computer! It had two 5.25" floppies because I couldn't afford the $500 20Mb hard drive.

His mom recently passed and he's having to run around trying to care for his late stage dementia dad and settle him into a care home, as well as deal with his own laundry list of medical issues too. So he's not had much time to make videos, and the few that he has put out all under performed per Youtube's analytics so it's just really discouraging all around. That sucks. I hope it all works out for him. His is the only YouTube channel I actually look forward to every week.
