The press filing center for tonight's debate is an unheated ice rink. But don't worry, the DNC totally wants the press to cover this thing, so they're giving out hand warmer packs.

You gotta love the difference between the republican venues and democratic venues. Republicans get to do it in a plane hangar in front of one of the planes that takes the role of Air Force One when the president is using it. Democrats do it in a lovely ice rink.

What exactly happened in the last few days? I just heard that there was yet another scandal involving emails in the Democratic primary.

Samuel Clemens posted:What exactly happened in the last few days? I just heard that there was yet another scandal involving emails in the Democratic primary. Apologies and I stand corrected if I'm getting any of this wrong: The DNC uses specific software, developed by the NGP VAN company, to store all of their gathered information on voters. The data is segregated per campaign. This software experienced a bug on Wednesday that allowed users to peek into data that should have been proprietary to a specific campaign. Four members of the Sanders campaign, including their data director, were recorded as looking at and attempting to copy voter information that belonged to the Clinton campaign. The Sanders campaign's access to the software, and therefore all of their own voter information period, was suspended following the discovery of the breach. Their data director has been fired. I don't know if the other people known to have committed the unauthorized access has also been fired. There was a statement released earlier today about the Sanders campaign having their access restored, but I don't know if that's been done yet.

Samuel Clemens posted:What exactly happened in the last few days? I just heard that there was yet another scandal involving emails in the Democratic primary. The DNC party organization provides a database infrastructure that's used by the various campaigns. Some of it is open to all, but anything that the campaigns dug up themselves (voter contact info from their boots-on-the-ground volunteers, say) is supposed to be kept confidential to the campaign that owns it. Well, the DNC hosed up their IT security and things weren't compartmentalized like they should have been. One of Bernie's staffers took advantage of this and pulled a copy of all of Hillary's contact info. Bernie fired the staffer, but the DNC still locked his entire campaign out of the database entirely. Now his campaign is suing in federal court to get back in, claiming that they're losing half a million dollars a day in donations. e: drat.

What's there to debate about? Not much. Only way questions about the scandal are going over 10 mins is if Bernie does something boneheaded. I don't think that's gonna happen. Most the debate is going to be foreign policy. mike12345 posted:maybe she'll pull a jeb, totally blunder it, and sanders will come out winning. Doubt it. Unlike Jeb's rusty, cobweb filled rear end, Clinton has been active in politics. My bet is she acts magnanimously towards Bernie himself. The Sanderistas are riled up, no reason to go for cheap points with large leads.

If she is sure she's got it wrapped up then she'll want to work on getting the support of people who love Sanders and there's no reason to try to make hay out of the issue and create further division within the party. If she's not she can go after him and try to paint him as a typical politician, but I think that's really risky considering how open a lot of people are to angry outsiders this year. It also will attract media attention to the so far pretty boring Democratic primary which seems to be the opposite of what she'd want to do.
