Hiked out to the face of the local Mendenhall glacier with my dog. Click for huge Halfway point overlook.   Getting closer  The final ridge before descending to the face of the glacier, no more vegetation past here.   Looking down that ridge  No pictures of the descent, but you get to the bottom and are greeted with one of the few signs on the trail. Thanks.  The first bit of ice  Sometimes there's accessable ice caves. Not right now though.  Where the glacier was just 5 years ago, there's a bunch behind me going back to 2000 or so, They've stopped putting signs up since.    About as close as you can get without getting too risky or having a boat.
