good-rear end shoujo. sadly the anime cut-off just before the manga got really, really great. s2 will be number one whenever it happens.

4. idolmaster cg

a really strong drama, surprisingly. uzurin otp.

3. symphogear gx

it's more symph. a couple of the plot points were weird, but, it was more symph. carol's song is amazing.

2. shirobako

super good and made me appreciate anime a lot more. also the hcharacter development was really good.

1. hibike euphonium

the greatest anime kyoani has ever made.

going by his dumb-rear end reaction to the part of shirobako where the protagonists are high schoolers for two minutes, he probably only watched two minutes of euphonium, and saw GIRLS so he turned it off

i want a shirobako season 2, where they get contracted to be one of the 70 studios working on some ridiculously long-running shonen series

but yeah, I never got the impression that the shows they were making were 'mediocre.' in the exodus arc it even seems to have done pretty well and been decently received, even by hardcore fans/people who are really picky. It seems more like the show was just having them make pretty good anime, not world-changing stuff.

I thought that sort of thing was already happening, it just wasn't the focus of the show. Like, that older animator had to have been working on something, right?
i figured he was working on commercials. something that one dude could feasibly animate by himself since it's like 15 seconds long.

I wouldn't call it my favorite show ever made, but I liked Sakurasou a lot. That said, it definitely looks and honestly even is a bit generic, so it's no surprise it slipped under a lot of people's radars, especially on ADTRW. '3 episode test' is pretty much 'look at the base premise and decide whether or not I want to watch it,' and while that works for high concept comedies and weird shonen and stuff, it means that stuff that just executes really well on a fairly basic idea slips through the cracks.

But I seem to remember that, at the time, some were complaining that it did nothing but make fun of an autistic kid, and should be boycotted for that.
honestly even if they were literally meant to be autistic (which is, uh, questionable) the show would have done a pretty decent job with them, so :yikes:

Cake Attack posted:

It looked boring and i never really heard anyone praise it, is it actually good?

i guess endorph already answered that so why is it good might be a better question
i answered that, too.

it isn't gonna revolutionize the world or anything but it's a well-executed romantic comedy, all the characters are pretty likable, even the male lead, and the drama that's there actually lands, which is pretty surprising for an anime romantic comedy. My one real complaint is that not all of the jokes are knee-slappers, especially early on. Most of them are the standard anime romcom jokes you've seen before. They aren't overdone to the point of being annoying, but they're kind of just there.

That said, it's a nice, easy to watch show, with basically nothing to actually complain about. The character designs are cute, also. It's pretty much the anime equivalent of a student who gets straight Bs.

but yona (the show and the character) gets much better in the manga, pretty much immediately where the anime left off.
