I'm interested in shadowing a team to get a feel for the game design process, so if any teams want an intern, my off hours are available. I'm a software developer by trade, but I have relatively little game programming experience, so I don't know if I have enough to offer in that department. I'm willing to learn and discuss, of course.

This sounds like an excellent reason to spend all day tomorrow adding scripting and sprite support to my engine. So team Just Gotta Finish My Engine First might be a thing. Might. (It's probably just going to be team My Engine Barely Works.)

JonTerp posted:Sure. If you're okay with never being judged or on any streams and nobody except you playing your game. Yeah. Go for it. You're probably still getting the resolution and lack of audio though. And there probably won't be GPU-acceleration. Or physics. Input may or may not be a temporary hack. We'll see how far I get before the 8th. I'm hoping I won't have to spend most of the jam-time adding basic engine functionality. I guess that might be half the fun of it though. Worst-case scenario, can I submit a half-finished engine with no game in it as a kind of meta-commentary on the nature of jam-games? I'm pretty sure that would fit into all three potential themes pretty well. (Ok, I'll stop being silly and get back to coding now.)

Not sure how this would be a meta-commentary on gamejams, since it's probably quite unusual to roll your own engine for gamejams, and using WIP engines seems sortof awkward.

I coded a custom graphics engine for my game during the July jam using C and OpenGL. It took weeks of coding before actually getting to the game designing part. However it's definitely rewarding for learning at a very low level how video games work. There are advantages to making your own engine in terms of flexibility and optimizing for what is important in your game, and you have to get creative in designing a game that overcomes the limitations of your own engine. If I have the time, I plan on going the same route with this jam.

Oooh, Chill, eh? Well, I'm not too busy with work for the next few weeks, so I'd be happy to offer my skills as a composer (and possibly SFX designer, but don't count on it). Almost everything I write is chill. If you don't believe me, take a look at my SoundCloud, and my work on Impulse. Smooth jazz, fusion, downbeat disco and house. Chill is my element. I hang out in the IRC a whole bunch, so just yell at me if you like what you hear (you can also just PM me or call me out in the thread, I'll be checking it pretty consistently). I can probably write some goofy Sleigh Ride rip-off if you want that, though. (I'm currently joined up with Ultigonio fucked around with this message at 08:34 on Jan 9, 2016 |

I'm pretty set on making a mobile friendly spell casting wizard game. I like the idea of swiping a sequence, like a phone password, to cast spells. I'm still kicking around themes though. Maybe Weed Wizard, where you have to maintain the perfect amount of weed, heat, and cool water in a bong for a parade of sweet wizard buddies. Edit: Yeah, party wizard is going down root of all eval fucked around with this message at 17:12 on Jan 8, 2016 |
