My guesses are as follows:
  • Jakeem and Goblin King: These get a "… that you didn't choose last turn" clause.
  • Tank: A) It dies if you miss the attack with it and/or either B1) the damage isn't unavoidable or B2) the character displacement doesn't deal damage at all
  • Faust: They already nerfed him before, so I doubt they'll do it again.

Alternatively, they're just pushing the super powerful chases to drive more sales. Because, of course they are. Doesn't make it good.

I remember when they realized that having chases like the ones in Crisis was terrible for the game and knocked it right the gently caress off. These days they really couldn't care less. It's sad. It's why the game's becoming less fun. If you don't bring meta pieces you're going to lose and that's it. Our local venue's been running 300 Modern most weeks for the last couple months in preparation for ROC states so people can test teams. However, at least the two judges are aware everyone's tired of it because not everyone has or wants to run the Pym Tank, Jakeem Thunder, and Goblin King. If they do, fine, but we don't need Worlds-quality bullshit being the norm. If meta pieces weren't ConExes or chases that would be one thing, but this is what's driving people out of the game. It's just not fun if the stuff you need to win against cheeselords is bank-breaking and I guaran-drat-tee you Ollie here will be.

Also, I'm calling the DKR garbage dump as an Elseworlds map, possibly with special rules for close combat. I'd expect we may also see Leatherwing's ship and some Old West map for the Justice Riders and possibly the farm from The Nail.

Next week is 600 Golden where all characters on your force must be either Prime or unique, including old gold- and bronze-ringed LEs. I'm looking at a team roughly like this, which goes with my intent to run a team entirely of Unique and LE versions of Iron Man.
pre:
SV217	Iron Man	160
↑FEAT	Stunning Blow	10
MU200	Iron Man	100
AW214	Tony Stark	150
AW218	Anthony Stark	100
WOLR100	Green Battery	2
	Green Ring	8
	Shield 8
	Wall 10
	Crossbow	10
	Decoy 6
	Spotlight	6
	Catapult	10
?FEAT	Trick Shot	20
---------------------------
		Total:	600
		Theme:	N/A
The ? on Trick Shot is because I'm not sure who to give it and the Crossbow to. Nobody has less than an 8 Range, so everyone's a ranged bomb. I could give it to NGN Iron Man, but I'm already giving him Stunning Blow and I don't want to overload one character with feats. I'm not sure about using the Catapult because everyone's potentially an attacker, though Anthony Stark's 9 AV could relegate him to pure support. The main reason he's on there is the 8-Range Outwit, which makes him a prime candidate for the Spotlight. I'm thinking FCBD Iron Man might be the best for the Crossbow/Trick Shot combo because I could give Tony Stark the Shield for permanent ES/D and then with the Crossbow/Trick Shot I could potentially Trick Shot/Energy Explode into a cluster because most people at my venue have never played with feats. Maybe instead of the Crossbow I could use the Stop Sign because it gives Plasticity, which is the other (easily-forgotten) prerequisite for Trick Shot and which would help keep me from being tied up for Running Shots.

Thoughts? I'd like to make this gimmick team work because it's one I've got the figures for and I think Team House Party could actually be viable given that resources are allowed— if they weren't, I'd also use the Armor Wars Unique Iron Man.

Next week is straight 500 Golden for colossal Dormammu. I'm trying to think of the nastiest thing I can think of because I do love my shelf porn. I joked that I wanted to try to run a Celebrity team of rich guys or maybe just as many businessmen and lawyers as I could and call it Team I've Come To Bargain. However, currently I'm leaning toward running full-point Trinity of Sin, possibly with a resource, although I'm not sure which to run— I'd think either the Gauntlet or maybe the Phoenix Force. I also considered Avengers Prime but one good hit and they go down hard. I could maybe run the full Shi'ar Imperial Guard. Help me, guys. I can't decide what fuckery to commit.

Fuckery possibly settled: Green Battery, Trinity of Sin with the Shield Construct for a possibly permanent 21 Defense, Brother Voodoo with the Decoy, and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ATA on Brother Voodoo. The ATA will let Voodoo pop in when someone bases the Trinity, attack, then have an action token on him and Mind Control somebody. It gives him the move-and-attack he needs while exploiting the thing that made him meta when he was part of Modern! My only weakness would be facing another Green Battery, which would prevent me from being able to effectively use Working Together.

Also, they previewed Thunderstrike (the guy and the weapon) today along with the generic Mace. It figures, he's a loving chase. The Thor Corps with their signature weapons is going to be loving chases. drat you, Wizkids, I'm about ready to tell you to shove this game up your asses. When there's a small subset of characters you could put in and let the fans have so they can just have that mini-theme, you keep loving us over. Kingdom Come. DKR. Red Son. The Thors aren't even that high-profile a group, yet because it'll highlight your new fancy equipment you made them goddamn chases. I've been playing for almost 13 loving years and every year it seems like Wizkids gets greedier and greedier, letting marketing dictate design just like they did with that bullshit Pym Tank. "What'll make people buy more cases? Super boosters? Sure! We can do that. OH! What about making the things that really make the set's theme sing chases so they're really rare and expensive? It's brilliant!" gently caress you, Wizkids. Just goddamn gently caress you.

Well, poo poo. I remembered that you can't assign resources to a team base, so the Shield is out. I'm still considering a variant of that team where I use the Orange Battery. I'd still use full Trinity of Sin and maybe Brother Voodoo with the Battery having the Sniper Rifle and Decoy (so I could give him Shape Change and if need be a 10 Range instead), but a better idea might be HoT Nico Minoru so I can abuse her pick-a-power with Emotional Spectrum: Greed. A big threat to ToS has Precision Strike? Nico calls it every other turn and the Battery takes it. Pulse Wave? Of course. Invincible? Definitely, then ToS plugs it. I'm just not sure if that would be too gimmicky, as knocking Nico out removes that entire tactic. Then again, knocking Nico out means they're not working on ToS, plus she shouldn't be up near the action anyway.

Edit: Another idea that just occurred to me and isn't so all-my-eggs-in-one-basket is BVS #016 Superman, FFSOG Black Canary, FFSOG ORacle, and TabApp TABD-002 Batman for a Justice League theme. I could go either Symbiote and Weapon Drop with the old-school Dumpster for Superman HSS abuse (while it's still legal to do so) and throw Ambush on Superman and Running Start on Black Canary. Alternately, I could forego the Dumpster and give Superman the Utility Belt instead of using special objects, then let him tote around a couple Ultra-Heavies. In either case Oracle lets him be extra mobile. I'm leaning toward the Utility Belt because that way I can have him be outdoors and take advantage or Powered By The Yellow Sun to heal if need be. With Superman flying around murdering things Batman would get to pop around probably relatively ignored, also murdering things with Charge/Flurry plus Perplex. Furthermore, instead of Ambush I could maybe use either the Justice League or Justice League Dark ATAs— more likely the former.

He'll have to get errata so he can't use Draw the Odinsword on his 30-point line. Otherwise it'll become tremendous board control as you can't attack his dudes from within 3 of your starting area. If you do, he retaliates— apparently not even as an action of any kind— by placing himself entirely in the starting area, then upgrading himself to 150 points. That's beyond sick. Something tells me there wasn't any playtesting with this.

I'll read them thoroughly later, but a quick glance at TAs reveals that HOLY gently caress THEY FINALLY CHANGED INJUSTICE LEAGUE. It only took, what, 11 years? They've also changed the "free move" TAs but they haven't done anything to Indy.

EDIT: Holy poo poo! Skimming it,on page 26 of the Core Rulebook they don't even list the Duo, Sharpshooter, or Team attack symbols. Looking at the Comprehensive Rulebook Supplement it doesn't mention them either. I think we've just had a shitload of old characters who are going to need errata or rulings because they now have combat symbols with no rules. (Further edit) They at least mention those elements on page 16 of the Supplement, but say that the rules can be found online. They also seem to have formally killed off the Capture ability and— shockingly— Multi-attack! The REV distinction is also officially dead.

I would like to go on record as revising my chase prediction. It'll be at least largely characters who have an iconic weapon or other item. We saw Thunderball with Enchanted Ball and Chain. Given that generic name, I call that we're going to see a chase Absorbing Man with his ball and chain. I also predict a chase Dargo Ktor (probably with "Dargo's Mjolnir") and a chase Thor with regular Mjolnir. We may also see a chase Valkyrie with Dragonfang. I think there's a good chance we'll see one member of the Wrecking Crew at each level of rarity other than Common, with Wrecker being the chase with his Enchanted Crowbar.
