Worst Middle East cartoon:

Worst Paris Attacks Cartoon:

Ted Rall posted:

I know it’s not all about me, but it’d be nice to get “credit” for the chances I took and the price I paid for political satire after 9/11.
1. This past week’s events reminds me of being interviewed for a job as a cartoonist at the Asbury Park Press in New Jersey.
2. The editorial page editor had been trying me out as a freelancer for months. Finally the editor was considering hiring me on staff.
3. The interview went very well. Finally, he said, “I have just one last question:”
4. “Will I ever look outside my window and see people protesting a cartoon that you drew?” I was caught by surprise.
5. I answered truthfully: “I don’t know. Maybe. Not intentionally, but it’s certainly possible.” He replied: “wrong answer.”
6. Naturally I didn’t get the job. Eventually they hired someone else. Perhaps he answered the question correctly.
7. Shortly thereafter, this was in the 1990s, the newspaper in Harrisburg Pennsylvania flew me out to be interviewed for a cartoonist job.
8. There weren’t any questions like that, but close. They decided to add another sports writer instead of hiring a cartoonist.
9. I was considered for a job in St. Louis, but the editorial page editor said that her readers didn’t want to be challenged or offended.
10. Then there was the Sacramento Bee. They flew me out, but the editor there said that the decision came down to a choice:
11. Did they want to rattle “the good burghers of Sacramento,” or give them something fun to read over breakfast? They chose the latter.
12. Every political cartoonist has stories like this. Cowardice is the dominant personality trait in the press in the United States.

Worst Refugee Crisis Cartoon:

Lisa Benson shows she can run with the big dogs and even manages to fit an Ahmed Mohamed reference in for good measure.

Worst Planned Parenthood Cartoon:

There's something particularly odious about right-wing mouthpieces trying to frame their criticism of Planned Parenthood from an anti-racist standpoint.

Worst Cartoon about a Tragedy:

Published the day of the San Bernardino shootings. Last year to nominate Muir for something so I had to fit him in somewhere.

Worst Caricature:

Take your pick.

Worst "A Thing Happened" Cartoon:

Yup, he sure is dead. Good one Henry.

Worst Cartoon about a Movie:

This cartoon is actually hilarious, but eh.

Worst Label:

Because they ruin an otherwise powerful cartoon

Least Concealed Bigotry (Racism) in a Cartoon:

Tough to beat this stunning return to form by Bob Lang

Least Concealed Bigotry (LGBT) in a Cartoon:

Obviously not as overtly transphobic as some of the others, but there's something uniquely infuriating about Rall's smugness in talking down to gay and trans people about their rights.

Laziest Non-Gorrell Cartoon:

It's the obvious MS Paint artifacts that really seal this one for me.

Most Easily Reinterpreted:

Glenn 7oden correctly points out that Obama is not to blame for ISIS' genesis.

Overall Worst Political Cartoon:

Just because the Planned Parenthood poo poo pissed me off more than anything else this year.

Best Edit/Parody:
Rorus Raz for The Cartoonist Has No Idea How Net Neutrality Works

'Nonsense, This Is An Election Year':

I feel like this one really encapsulates the practice of slapping labels on any old poo poo regardless of whether it actually makes sense or not. POLITICS

I feel like we need some more nominees for overall worst cartoon, there has been some really heinous poo poo this year but a lot of people have left that category blank (maybe because there are too many to sort through?)
