I have a friend who hammock camps when conditions permit, and he seems to really enjoy it. As long as you have a nice sleeping bag and don't mind feeling like you're in a cocoon, it seems like a completely fine alternative in good/mild weather. e: edited out wrong info, apparently they make rain flies for hammocks now?
