Rift Crystals are also the main currency in the DLC and you better have a lot because gear gets extremely expensive if no one has been using your pawn

I used alottabagina and sent her back with a small fish but I died afterwards and went back to a save where I still had her so maybe it didn't take?

They have a way higher drop rate so you'll still be able to snag better gear but you won't be able to uncurse every thing that drops

You know how on the mainland mobs sometimes drop 100 rc or 50 rc or whatever, on bitterblack mobs can drop up to 5k. It's completely playable even offline but you've got to be more picky. Also on bitterblack there's broken rift stones that you can repair with crystals to change pawns mid dungeon, I'd avoid those if you're low on crystals.
