Also seriously if you haven't picked up the Hamilton cast recording you really should, it's almost been the only music I've listened to since it came out.

Somewhat relatedly, apparently Malcom in the Middle on Netflix uses a widescreen version of the show that wasn't meant to air regularly, so there's stuff off in the edges constantly that you weren't meant to see: Friends might also have the same issue but I don't have any screencaps of that. edit: flatluigi fucked around with this message at 05:11 on Feb 12, 2016 |

Ah, good for him! I basically decided the way I was going to get into MBMBAM was to listen from the beginning, so my current knowledge of everything is currently back at August 2013 (plus what little I pick up from The Adventure Zone)

As someone who knows quite a bit about the scene, Divekick is a bad game and you shouldn't play it. edit: and that's speaking as someone who likes Dave Lang, it's just not good and overcomplicates what should be a very simple game to a ridiculous nigh-unplayable point

There were definitely some non-furry weird/bad moments in the super early ones, weird enough that I mentioned it on twitter several months ago when I started listening from ep 1 (leading to one of the brothers themselves responding to tell me that they do get better on it as the show went on). I wish I could remember specifics but I'll save my relisten to them all for after I finally catch up to present day. Also I'm pretty sure that over-apologizing for the furry stuff is one of their running gags and not something they felt they really intensely needed to apologize for.

On a different track, does anyone have an RSS feed for Sawbones that has the episodes from 2013 on it? I listen to all my podcasts through Pocketcasts and was going to finally start on Sawbones only to find out that what I'm pretty sure is the official rss feed only goes back to Jan 2014. (The first ep on the RSS actually leads off with them talking about how it was their 30th episode, and I was pretty sure it was a goof until I actually went and checked)

Would going through all the donor episodes for the different max fun podcasts be a good intro to the shows? I haven't listened to a single non-McElroy show and at some point I really should I think!

Is there a tabletop game system that actually adds to the gameplay instead of just facilitating it? I've always felt that things improve a ton when you avoid using them as hard guidelines + favor getting everyone to have fun instead of rigorously following every single rule, and TAZ seems to support that a lot!

chaos rhames posted:Pretty much all of them that aren't trying to be super realistic or DnD will. A decent game is either going to encourage quality narratives, like Apocalypse World (and friends) or 13th Age, or tactical gameplay like Strike! or Runequest. Honest question, how do they do that? I've followed a few things over the years but most systems I've seen people use just seem to get in the way of the people playing more often than not.

chaos rhames posted:Apocalypse World chat I don't see how that's functionally different than how they're currently playing in The Adventure Zone and it's basically what I meant exactly by facilitating instead of actually adding to gameplay vv Kojiro posted:I used to think that Griffin is a really railroady DM, but gently caress, it's best for it as the podcast they wanna make. Like they said in that discussion episode, what works at a tabletop isn't the same as what works in a podcast. Yeah, I honestly didn't realize exactly how much they consider the podcast format when playing, but it makes a lot of sense given how well it comes across.

Donor episodes from the McElroy Empire: 8 MBMBAM episodes plus Big Gulp Live and the demo of Ghost Horse sung by Lin-Manuel Miranda, three videos I haven't watched that are apparently MBMBAM-related, three The Adventure Zone episodes, three Sawbones episodes (one of which is actually the final episode of Losing the Sheen where they watch the bizarre series finale), two Bunker Buddies, one Shmanners, one Still Buffering, one Trends Like These, and one Can I Pet Your Dog
