So I have XBOX Game Pass that has Witcher 3 right now, I loaded it up and played for 10 minutes on my XB1, then connected my account to GOG and it gave me a copy. If you’re truly desperate for Witcher 3 you could start a trial and get it for free this way.

Is it GOTY?

Nah it was definitely via the Epic store, but you need the Rockstar Launcher to actually launch the game iirc. Same deal as when Epic gave away Assassin's Creed Syndicate for free as well.

Or Watch Dogs 2. Which involves downloading 40gb to just sit there in your epic folder, even after installing via Ubisoft Connect.

99% of the time it's credential stuffing, you used the same password on some site with poor security, it got hacked, then someone bought the password list and blindly tried logging into Playstation/Epic/etc with the same credentials. They don't know if your account is worth stealing until they steal it, so they take the shotgun approach and pop as many as they can.

This is why security nerds tell you to use a password manager and unique random password for every site nowadays (or at least enable 2FA on anything important if you can't be bothered)

FYI Chrome will tell you if one of your saved credentials is on one of those compromised lists

DDR5 is launching in a matter of weeks for Intel's new platform so I'm thinking on the order of a year from now things will be settling down, but there's no way to say for sure

AMDs new platform will only support DDR5 so I certainly hope the RAM is somewhat affordable (Intel is supporting both DDR4 and DDR5 for a while)

The silicon shortages haven't affected memory prices all that much

i was thinking of putting a new pc together, but i can wait a year if ddr5 prices should be reasonable in that time frame.

though isn't the first batch of a new generation of memory usually also not actually much of an improvement over the last gen of DDR?

i got a "free copy" differently. if you were part of the beta and didn't uninstall within some short period, it became impossible to properly uninstall, because the bethesda client wouldn't give you permission to touch those files. of course i couldn't actually play the game, so i was stuck with 50 or whatever gigs of bloat for over half a year, when they suddenly remembered to fix it.

(yes there probably were ways around it (control panel uninstall didn't work either, though), but i didn't want to mess around with the registry to make sure everything was clean)

that game was something else.
