There are certain phrases that seem to possess a sort of intrinsic beauty.

"Full-body asscrack" is one of these phrases.

This was such a masterful exercise in subverting the audience's expectations. Page ends on Noppera-bou beginning to say something about the gold –> "Oh no, it's not going to pull the old character-is-killed-right-before-they-reveal-something-very-important cliché, is it?" –> Noppera-bou is killed right before he reveals something very important –> "Goddammit" –> The decidedly plot-armoured character he was talking to is killed as well, so no one would have received the information anyway and it was literally just a half-reveal addressed at the audience

Not to mention that Asirpa presumably just became the protagonist, after the themes about her being the future of the Ainu had just been restated and made more complicated. What was the title of this chapter in Japanese? 'Communication' is pretty interesting for how it relates to the theme of passing something on.

I really hope this is actually the huge turning point it seems to be, although it would be very Golden-Kamuy-like if Nikaidou (who was never confirmed as dead) revives Sugimoto with CPR or something because he certainly won't let Ogata of all people prevent him from killing Sugimoto personally.

Just that, "communication" in katakana.

Interesting. That probably means the thematic signficance of the term's etymology is deliberate.
