I'm really confused now. How can Superior Private Ogata give orders to Corporal Nikaidou? Corporal is two ranks above Superior Private. Besides, Nikaidou is always calling him "sir". I wonder how common horseriding was between the Ainu. Kiroranke is an Ainu from the Amur River region in mainland Asia and as far as I'm concerned the native peoples there aren't frequent horseriders. Though the Mongols invaded that region plus Sakhalin and clashed with the Ainu in the 13th century, so who knows...

In this case it would make sense he's a Nivkh then. They have some similar customs like bear sacrifice, a little bit of intermarriage and they also live by the mouth of the Amur river and Sakhalin (I'm a bit of a sperg with Siberian and Manchurian ethnic groups in case y'all didn't notice). I understand the translation intends to be as accurate and informative as possible but I think it's funny to see an Ainu man calling that kind of tree a "Manchurian elm tree" and not just "elm tree". Although, as an Amur Basin Ainu, he pretty much is from Manchuria, apparently.
