There was another thread where it was mentioned he was likely tortured to death, and that people who suffer from schizophrenia can sometimes be pulled out of it during intense physical duress. So while he was being tortured to death he may have had a "moment of clarity" and even if he hadn't consciously realized what he was getting in to when he was kidnapped he sure as poo poo died knowing what was going on.

He MAY have deserved to die for going off to play soldier in a war he had nothing to do with, and killing people and whatnot, but that's not for me to judge. Anyway, what can you really do? The young man was aggressively crazy and it's really a shame that he was enabled instead of given help.
