No, this is not too much travelling. I actually took a similar route (flew into Edinburgh, up to Isle of Skye then out through Glasgow) a little over ten years ago. You are spacing it out far enough that it's no big deal to drive from destination to destination. I highly recommend a second night at Isle of Skye because it has the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen in my life.
