Deakul posted:I don't think this is following history down to the T, it's more of a play set with a bunch of famous pirates and historical figures plotting and scheming in it. Yeah but the circumstances of Vane's downfall and death are pretty drat TV dramatic as it is, so I would imagine they would want to keep that. Gazaar posted:I'm pretty sure he's sailing the Walrus again, they mentioned it by name. The season 1 Walrus was obliterated. Flint always names his ship the Walrus.

Also you pirate by sailing close before popping your black flag, a Man o War isn't hiding as a merchant ship.

Lord Tywin posted:Well hopefully either Vane or Titus Pullo will kill her this season! I will be very upset if she somehow manipulates Vane and survives again since she's just such a boring character in such an awesome cast. When you do semi-historical stuff like this and Spartacus and other similar shows, an issue you can run into is that some of your antagonists can't die. Spartacus' final season had that because seriously gently caress Crassus and Caesar, those sons of whores. Their way around that was by creating their own characters who they could have killed, and give the protagonists that little win the audience wanted. Especially because we all know there's no victory at the end of Spartacus. So depending on how far they want to take Eleanor, since she's fictional there's that option. However currently she's meant to be seen as one of the good guys.

He was known for torturing crews before killing them too. And he cheated his crew out of their shares. It's a really weird choice for him to be one of the heroes of this show.

Yes. Vane is considered that bad. Flint is regularly portrayed as an unhinged monster. Vane was that way early on but they mostly tossed it and he's all noble and conflicted now.

I mean at worst Treasure Island told you Billy didn't die back in season 1. Otherwise there's not much it can give away.

Immortan posted:Wait so the Spanish know about the British with Eleanor having stole some part of the Urca gold due to spies? Max hasn't actually given it to him yet, so he hasn't stolen anything. They know some gold was exchanged. So now he can't simply deliver the gold they did find, say "This was all that was there" and pocket the black pearls. Spain will be expecting him to recover the pearls too.

The circumstances of Vane's death are already dramatic enough that it would be a shame not to use how he died for real.

They keep talking about what hold Max has over "the streets" (man have they overused that phrase lately) and everything now but we never saw it happen, and we never see what effect it has. What we've actually seen is just a worse Eleanor.

Most of the show doesn't happen without Eleanor's bad decisions. It's just easier to have one character do them.

Hollywood is sexist, they only write about an actress' fitness negatively. If an actress takes a break between projects and gains any visible weight, she's on every tabloid.

The show uses a lot of the same historical pirates, though it's actually less historically accurate than the magic space god technology video game.
