In Zelda 1 I was afraid of rooms with nothing happening in them, because the wall masters really freaked me out when I was 8 or whatever.

One of the first PC games I ever played was Wing Commander Privateer and I got pretty spooked at the part where you're working for the stellar cartography service, flying to places never before visited by people. It's not even on the map to start with.

Playing Axiom Verge today I was pretty creeped out by a place that kind of mimics a glitched out 'out of bounds' Metroid map. I think metroid had a profound effect on me as a child.
