My problem with Tales games is that none of them have matched the title mechanic from Tales of Graces, where doing stuff (almost any stuff) made you stronger, which inspired you to do different things in battles to unlock and power up the titles, which got you more stuff to do and power up. Edit: Shame about the story though.

Alteisen posted:So I'm playing Digimon Cyber Sleuth and it hard locked my Vita, took awhile for it to restart, started in safe mode, rebuilt the database and when it started up half my gaming library is missing. I've had my database rebuilt before, usually when my memory card accidentally pops out during transport. Try hard-booting the system (hold down the power button until it turns off) then turn it back on. That should bring back the games.

Just finished platinuming Memories of Celceta. A good game, though it dragged a bit at some points. I enjoyed running around killing monsters a lot more than I enjoyed the plot. Once I make a bit of a dent in my 3DS backlog, I think I'll check out Tales of Hearts R, as people have said its good.

So I want to get Cyber Sleuth - does it have any problems on the Vita, or am I good getting that version? Also, bummed Toukiden isn't on sale.

I just found out that the Vita version isn't on sale for Golden Week I have too many PS4 games and can't justify picking up another one that I won't get to for some time - hopefully sometime in the future it'll be cheaper on the handheld.

I bought the collector's edition of Cold Steel on sale and it has a spot in the box for Cold Steel 2 so now I have to get that too I guess? Edit: I love my dead handheld and I will carry around its corpse Weekend at Bernie's style until it falls apart or until its voodoo curse wears off. Edit: Wait that was Weekend at Bernie's 2.

I have played most of Valkyria Revolution, and it is bad. - There are only like a dozen maps in the game, expect to see them a lot, except with random parts blocked off depending on the mission - You can't access the map while in a mission, so if there's an enemy you need to kill to trigger the next part, oh boy have fun looking for them. - What am I saying that doesn't matter because enemies don't show up on the minimap either unless it's to take a base. - Enemies are pushovers at best, damage sponges at worst. Mechs in particular are bad, because the entire strategy for them is to run up to them and press the attack button until they die. - This applies to literally every enemy and boss in the game. - Magic powers are trash except for one or two that just blow up a bunch of enemies and once, saving you from pressing x repeatedly until they die. - The story is "Are we doing the right thing by starting this war?" except that their enemy is a power-hungry dictator who is a caricature of evil, so the answer is "Yes." and doesn't involve any real moral issue. - You upgrade your weapons by cramming magic spells into them. No strategy or thought required, just mush your spells into it, you'll get more later so it doesn't matter. - Equipment, like guns and grenades, are useless. Yes you can kill a single soldier, or you can magic them into mush. The only exception is very specific boss battles where you need rocket launchers. - There are cover mechanics, and status effects, and surprise attacks, and every single one of these are pointless and worse than the previously-explained strategy of 'run into the enemy and press x'. - Oh and the Vita runs it poorly. Enemies pop into existence as they spawn, or you run close to them, and if they're far enough away their animation is like a slideshow that looks terrible.

Severed is a great first-person metroidvania with cool combat mechanics that doesn't outstay its welcome. Toukiden 2 is a good Monster Hunter clone, I've found. Soul Sacrifice Delta, as well, but it's a different style. Edit: After you beat Persona 4 you can play Persona 4: Dancing All Night, of course.

Yakuza works so well because of that juxtaposition between beating a man's head into the sidewalk while walking to the video store to get your rocks off, or engaging in super-serious yakuza political strife right after delivering piping hot ramen or something down the road. If it were just one or the other I doubt I, at least, would enjoy it nearly as much. Edit: Wait this is the Vita thread, what is Yakuza chat doing in here.

I've always stuck with my basic, uh, 4 gb card (I think). It limits the number of games I can have at once on my system, sure, but I can transfer them to my PC when I'm done with them, and because my brain is broken, having fewer games to choose at any given time means I'm more likely to actually play them, unlike, say, my Steam library.

Oh nice, I might actually get around to playing it in that case. I mean the Vita is a dumb gay dead system but when I have an option to get a game on it or another system, as someone who takes public transit, I'm going to pick the Vita every time. I recently bought Salt and Sanctuary during the Halloween sale, and just platinumed it over the weekend since I had been playing it off and on wherever I happened to be sitting fairly non-stop. If only Sony hadn't been so incredibly incompetent in their marketing and proprietary garbage.

I know the Vita is a joke and such, but I've put so many hours into it and am happy when new games come out, even though I have a couple titles I still want to play through. Ive probably put like a hundred hours into Toukiden Kiwani, I've got Cold Steel waiting for me afterwards, halfway through Digimon Cyber Sleuth - these are (almost) all available on better consoles, but there's no way I'd be putting half as many hours into them if I didn't have the portable option.

Has anyone had an issue on their Vita of the memory card frequently being 'removed', despite not actually being removed? I'll grab my system out of my bag to play it and at least once or twice a week, it'll have booted back to the menu with that message, losing progress in a game I'm playing. Then I'll need to pull the card out and put it back in, then restart the system, to actually have it recognize the card.

If PQube didn't want to censor anything for a Western release then what could they do? Other than put it out on Steam I guess, because Steam's new caveat emptor deal would probably be fine. I can't imagine why Sony would care so much about a system they no longer support, market, or make games for. What are people going to do, buy fewer Vitas? I'm sure there's some stuff going on that I don't understand as someone looking in, but it seems silly. I guess it's all just a big overall branding thing? That said, I couldn't give half a rat's rear end about this game coming out anywhere so whatever.

U-DO Burger posted:it's really hosed up that the series known for confusing you by bouncing around timelines would have you do that again in the third game I can understand his confusion. In other games you bounce around the flowchart, but it's a single flowchart - when you start a scene you know exactly how you got there. In ZTD, you have no idea what's been happening. A team could already be dead. Someone on your team could be dead. Maybe you have an antidote in you? Who knows! I mean granted the game (Zero's game, that is) is based around the drugs he gives you and knocking you out, so the feeling of disconnect and such is being replicated for the player, which is neat. But I can understand the getting a little frustrated when first playing the game.
