This one's always been my favourite because you just know it was a bunch of first-year Sheraton student projects that some prof spent a lot of late nights trying to cram into a coherent finished product so there'd be something to show at the end of the year

It's a movement made possible by social media. This Facebook page is for artists to post their OC and where I got a lot of the images I posted here

Thank you, another piece of the puzzle found. Come to think of it, when I started tidying up using Mari Kondo's book, which involves some animism about objects, and getting rid of so much clutter, I realized I could even use this aesthetic as inspiration for my home decor, thinking back to some photo I've seen (but can no longer find) of just a bare, clean room with like a marble statue, a fern, and a vase with one flower in it. The phrase "the 'ahh-ness' of things" really clicks for me. Wabi-sabi seems especially apt here as well, and it's no wonder that there seems to be so much Japanese influence.

It's mostly a bunch of 20-somethings attempting to remember the 80s.

Brutalist architecture gave a lot of really good locations for 70s scifi movies.

One of my favorite aesthetics has always been Art Nouveau. Started in the late 19th century, popularized across Europe by world fairs, it affected art, architecture, and advertising. Most of the best Nouveau architecture is in Paris.

The organic swoops and curls are similar to the Rococo movement from a hundred years before, but has much more of a tie to nature and plant life.

The best known artist of the movement is Alphonse Mucha. He started as a printmaker in advertising, creating posters and lithographs for products.

He even did posters for plays.

as far as the music goes its really nothing new, just the same (albeit good) electronic music maybe cycling onto a new decade or two of sample material with new percussion fashions. saint pepsi and macintosh plus especially just strike me as something that wouldn't have sounded out of place on ninja tune or something were their heyday 15 years later

i appreciate all the posts that referred to actual aesthetics cuz i d i s c o v e r e d a lot of new stuff like wabi-sabi

The pdf that comes with DRAKE JOSH // JOSH DRAKE is like 100 times danker than the album, which is super hit or miss. (but when it hits, goddamn)

It's the year 2038 - Liquid capitalism floods the American landscape. Multinational corporations forge and engineer memories. Virtual bread and circuses profiteering on nostalgia pacify the lower class by selling "revisit kits" that allow consumers to relive past moments in their lives. Josh Peck, former child star and semi-successful B-movie actor, falls into depression after the suicide of co-star and BFF Drake Bell.

When alcohol and speedballs cease to numb him, he moves to heavy dissociatives including ketamine and PCP. He spends his days in his studio apartment, miles above the rot of the lower class, hosed up on cough syrup, computer duster, and smoking sherm sticks listening to 2000's pop standards while trying to piece together memories of his best friend from back when he was a tubby, tubby McFlubby, an exploitation of overweight kids with lisps.

The album deals with his Oprah obsession, his jealousy of Drake's looks and his bi-curious feelings for the boy, the GameSphere, swearing at little kids on a boat, and the human condition.

gently caress yeah, I didn't know there was a pdf and backstory. My friend showed me Millennial Dream Corp last year but it's hard to listen to without context and I can't believe I didn't simply scroll down.

Also of note is Hello, Arnold on the same bandcamp.

The kana reads "sakka heddo" (soccer head)

THE MILLENNIAL DREAM CORPORATION VOL 2 posted:

It's 2014. Arnold has been running Grandpa's boarding house since 2008 (when Grandpa died at the age of 91), just before the recession hits. Six long years of financial struggle finally force him to sell the house. On the bus to his new studio apartment, he realizes his life will become utterly meaningless without the communal responsibility of running the house. What is he qualified to do? Hell, maybe his life has been meaningless for a while. First his Grandpa, then Gerald in Afghanistan; the proximity of these two blows to his childhood naivete have left him an empty shell. At least he's got some extra pocket cash from the house. He sees an electronics store from the bus, and promptly pulls to get off. He needs something to distract him from the crippling nothingness of adulthood, and with all this cash, he's feeling justified in splurging on state of the art technology, a host of rudimentary companion robots (he always was a tech-head).

Of course, these things only distract for a moment. His mind continues to wander to his lost childhood; all the characters; the urban legends; the empty lot; the aquarium; Stinky; Sid; HELGA -- oh, Helga. He can't take it anymore. He takes a cocktail of dissociative and hallucinogenic drugs. He's armed with PCP, LSD, Ketamine, and all the consumer electronics a boy/man could want.

The following recording captures Arnold's psychotic trip down the rabbit hole of a childhood he desperately wants to both forget and recapture.

I think it's more the infographic equivalent of a storyteller who goes off on wild-rear end tangents about nothing. It's so good to watch- the bit where it starts listing the features of the VW bus that crosses Red's path reminds me of my grandpa and his in-depth technical tangents. It's that satisfying frustration of "I wish you'd get back to the story because this has nothing to do with it but at the same time please continue, it's fascinating." I'm guessing that the Germans have a word for it.

E: Garrison Keillor does similar stuff a lot during his monologues.
