metalfingers posted:as far as the music goes its really nothing new, just the same (albeit good) electronic music maybe cycling onto a new decade or two of sample material with new percussion fashions. saint pepsi and macintosh plus especially just strike me as something that wouldn't have sounded out of place on ninja tune or something were their heyday 15 years later its as if all the ppl that jerked off over boards of canadas retro samples and synths, good as it is, believed it was a rich vein of raw ideas to be mined to death in reality musical and visual 'tumblr culture' and aethetics based on nostalgia ends up being pure curation and collage for the sake of it with very little transformation or forward-moving synthesis. irony itself being inherently negative personally i'm a big fan of hosed up illlustrated collage that came after the tired 'edgy' punk juxtaposition and is simply gross and weird surrealism for post-punk idiot fuckers    At least post-punk/parody/noise culture imagery from the 90s was explicitly scathing, destructive and transformative about the exact same oversaturation of corporate culture into the public space, while the new internet-based aesthetic seems totally lonely, stoned, and castrated
