Panic owns owns owns! I made an idiot move that left my ranger girl exposed to some jerk in an alley, then his buddy does mind-magic which just makes her run out of being flanked, take full cover and miss a shot...

Which set a semi truck on fire and did six damage to that no good space nerd the next turn :getin:

edit: oh my gosh i shot a pectoid point blank and missed and his idle/dodge pose looked like he was grabbing the gun away and i freaked

My first campaign is ended in five weeks :magical:

First, I took a mission that gave me an engineer (i need those guys real bad) over the one that cancels the enhanced detection radius. This was the beginning of the end. A Retaliation mission goes awry immediately when a Muton and a Lancer activate when my guy reaches the corner of a building that no one had any business being on the other side of, and within two turns I've got a corpse and a sleeping grenadier. Did you know Mutons can melee you? For a lot? I didn't. I evac a turn or two later, but the good news is that I didn't get a chance to be mauled by the faceless that would have been my first "rescue". Thanks, scanning robot buddy.

Right after that, I gotta raid a train or something, so I grapple one guy up behind a chimney and activate: a Shield Guy and a handful of grunts, plus a Codex (WHY DO THESE EXIST) and some burly officer who looks like an M. Bison Power Ranger. I fall back and press all my "make this problem stop existing" buttons to no avail. My sniper whiffs the easy shot on the codex that would have killed it or at least brought it to one or two HP, but he does manage to do two points of damage from a weapon mod! Clone. Soon two guys have their guns jam and a bunch of assholes make shots so unlikely that they are akin to being struck by a falling meteor. Panic makes my wounded gunslinger hang out in the swirling death void. And then a trio of pectoids descend from the frosty cliffs around me like starving wolves, because why not?

But I did kill some snaketits one time by blowing up the floor, semper games

Son of a gently caress, my Heavylike was oneshot by an Archon jabbing a dumb pokestick into his right forearm.

This is a guy who bellowed like a drunk, got panicked and ran to better cover with no reveals and took killshots several times, waded through a fire for I swear two turns until evac and only had light wounds, and was most noticeable by his absurdly bright blue ski mask that made him look exactly like a Payday character in ridiculous Mass Effect tie-in DLC.

fake edit: you cannot tell me that New Mutons are not krogans or that Androwhatevers are not big daddies

LibbyM posted:

Achievements spoiled whether I was going to succeed an attack an absurd number of times during my playthrough. It's not the biggest deal or anything but it's still a little weird. I just shot the final boss with a shot that was definitely not going to kill them, and the "You beat the game" achievement popped up immediately after I clicked to fire. Superior repeater proc'd it turned out.

Especially in the early game, the combat log will give you a "these dudes got promos" notice before anyone actually finishes their concealed overwatch animation.

I feel robbed that I was told the results before the action stopped.

I was so proud of myself for never having to learn what a Gatekeeper can do since I always saved a Stasis on any mission that has a big horrible end game monster listed.

Tonight I found out what a Gatekeeper can do :rip:

I'm pretty sure a few of my most important guys are lying about their debilitating injuries suffered in the field (i.e. 2 to 4 damage usually from like a tiny fire they trundled through or a snek held them for one turn) in order to get weeks of "gravely wounded" sick leave.

These are the same dudes that have been maimed by Andro-punches and Lancer-bonks and merrily hobbled away with only moderate wounds.

Multiplayer is great, the other guy started with a sectopod up on a highway and it takes 3-5 minutes between turns!

Soldiershaming is the best! I had a hacker Specialist nicknamed "Pale Rider" who lost his goddamn mind after an ally took 4 damage (we got Warden tech). That ally was my chill medic Specialist, who fell down one floor and triggered a Sectopod. Pale Rider responds by killing the VIP while everyone else evacs, and he spends the next turn doing nothing, and the turn after that being Wrath Cannon'd and falling down three stories, whereupon a monster clubbed him to death.

80% chance to succeed. And even if I miss, that one guy can give me a free action.

That one guy already used his actions on a problem that happened a minute ago.

Axiom Verge is a very good Metroidvania and this plays in my head when I think of them murdering horrible monsters.
