gently caress, I am now having problems with a showstopping bug, every time I enter a mission the game crashes. The geoscape is fine. I have restarted and validated the game files.

UFOs don't spawn until you do the Black Site mission so I don't think you have to face an Avenger defence until you do. Since I already controlled all the story mission locations beforehand and the Black Site gave me a convenient lone Codex to Skulljack, I feel pretty confident about letting it sit until the end

I mean, psionics and specialists work really well together. It's not just that they do have 4 different guaranteed damage abilities, but one of their most basic abilities makes Skulljacking a snap. Stasis is such a clutch ability, being able to take the most dangerous unit out of the fight 100% of the time while I deal with its friends has saved my rear end so many times.

Neddy Seagoon posted:It's not a desire for no metagame, it's just for one that isn't as stressful. The Geoscape gives you no breathing room whatsoever for letting time pass to just collect resources or do anything without almost certainly getting interrupted by some mission or other. Which you can't say no to without facing major setbacks in one form or other that makes it even more stressful. Not to mention that most or all of your best guys are still wounded from the last time a mission came up, so now you're stuck in a cycle of trying to eke out a single team of healthy soldiers to go poke an Advent Facility because the counter just slapped on yet another two tiles while you were stuck playing catch-up. This seems so alien to me because it is like the exact opposite of my experience between the two games. The first geoscape was extremely stressful and luck-based. You basically had to go satellite rushing and also hope that you could get enough engineers in time, and managing panic was basically where 90% of your resources were going for the first two months, while also hoping you rolled well on the excavation or steam vents, because otherwise goodbye huge chunk of credits. Blowing off an abduction raised panic in 6 different countries. Blowing off a terror mission was permanent and irrevocable damage. This is absolutely not the case here. Guerrilla ops are, yeah choose which two bad things you want to hit you, but most of those go away after a month, and you know what those things will be ahead of time so you can plan for them. You can blow off a retaliation mission and lose that country, but then you can always get them back, only a little worse for wear. Hell, having an estimated timer to the next retaliation mission is such a key piece of help in terms of your planning. The black site is always near your start, so you always have a safety valve if you are nearing the end of the countdown timer.

I honestly have overwatched like 5% of the time I did in XCOM 1. I use it to set up the concealment ambush, but otherwise I'm barreling towards an objective all the time and running and gunning it, and everyone has more abilities that seem to be better to be using all the time. Playing the non-timed missions and realizing how much slower things go with overwatch creeping was a revelation.

Yeah, neutralizing a pod should take no more than 2 or 3 turns, otherwise you screwed up somewhere. Since usually you deal with two pods before reaching the objective and the first one should be taken out by an ambush, the time limits seem tight but doable in most cases. The big thing is that you should not take more than two turns before engaging the first pod. Concealment gives you a lot of leeway to move forward. Edit: Battle Scanners and Scanning Protocol are really useful

If you have two pips plus a couple of weeks, you should have plenty of time to expand to a facility nation. You should get enough Intel from council missions/ops. You may have to deliberately fail a retaliation mission to clear up comms but that can be fixed at a later date

The dark events are usually difficulty modifiers that add some challenge but are usually not back-breaking. And again, you get plenty of notice on what they are. This is unlike panic management, which can totally gently caress you because of randomness, and which has permanent debilitating consequences, and which you could also screw yourself if you don't launch satellites correctly at the end of the month and end up getting an abduction mission in a continent with already full coverage

Lost 2/3 of my squad on that, but i managed to finish them off and finish the mission. Barely. I was dodging overwatch fire dashing into the evac zone. Weird, I did this mission with all Tier 3 gear like in month seven. I saw like one Muton, one Archon, and one Codex, the rest were just random Advent grunts. Edit: How are you pulling Andromedons with only Tier 1 gear, does that happen in other missions

victrix posted:I don't think there's any time pressure either to do the blacksite or on the blacksite? I am of the mind that waiting on the blacksite is a good idea. You don't get any special progress advancement for doing it early, and in fact you can't really do anything until you get the Shadow Chamber up anyway. It unlocks the Avenger Defense mission, which just adds another problem. Leaving the blacksite on the map also gives you a safety valve in case you are on your last timer and haven't reached another facility yet.

Is there a tier three? I imagine that would do 12 damage to mechanical targets, which is a shitload for something that literally can't miss and you don't have to expose yourself to do. Yes, you get the Tier 3 Gremlin from Sectopod Wreck research.

Buddying a combat hacker up with a heavy with bluescreen rounds and EMP grenades is pretty fun. EMP weapons also reduce enemy hack defense so all the top-tier robots can be pretty much handled with impunity from a distance

I kind of want to pick up War of the Chosen and there are some good 15% off deals for it right now. But I can't really find anything substantial for the Season Pass DLC pack so I would have to pay at least $15 for it. That is kind of keeping me away from getting anything because of FOMO. Please tell me if the DLC is good enough to get at that price, or alternatively, if it is bad enough that I am not missing out and should just get WOTC

Oh man, I jumped back into this after getting WOTC+DLC after a while, Ironman Veteran, and I got lulled into a false sense of security by how easy the first month's missions were and even the retaliation mission. Then I tried doing the rescue Mox mission and overextended because I forgot how far Stun Lancers could run and totally split up my squad and wiped. Trying to resist the urge to start over, and I know I should just keep pushing along Edit: Welp, my panic Alt-F4 put me a turn earlier and so I managed to extract with two soldiers and the stunned one got captured.
