Is the time until must-launch randomized? I swear I've been only getting operations with slightly over a day recently Although I did have a prison break mission that I decided to send my best Shinobi/Resident Axe Murderer alone on. just narrowly hit 100% infiltration in the day I had. Dude managed to stealth his way into the prison and the group mad dashed for the evac zone. He also got to whip an axe at a sectoid before leaving. It didn't kill them but at least there's one sectoid out there who knows the score. EDIT: Just because I managed to find the screenshot I took of the loading screen before the mission and I love it: Danaru fucked around with this message at 01:42 on Feb 18, 2017 |

FoxHound-ing your way through missions without activating a single pod is one of the most satisfying feelings, I have a Shinobi specc'd for solo prison breaks who could 200% infiltrate an area in a couple days, but with advent starting to beef up patrols, and mainly the presence of Vipers, I'm increasing Team Prison Break to a Shinobi, Specialist, and Sniper, just in case. The Shinobi scouts the path to the prison, Sniper secures the EVAC zone, then the specialist opens the door from afar and everyone does their best Usain Bolt impression. I'm really glad they're adding the ability to see if bodies will be collected in the mission briefing now. I really wish I could just have someone throw an Advent officer corpse over their shoulder before they rope out.

First time I played Shen's gift I had the pre-LW2 LW mod that alters your squad sizes, letting me bring six people. Resulted in an extremely intense mission where by some miracle, no one died. It was fantastic Also due to my extremely cautious play, I'm pretty sure the MEC death count was in the triple digits, and pretty much everyone has a "dude, you're taking too long, get a move on" line including Julian

Why WOULDNT you full stealth a mission if possible? I'm genuinely asking because I end a surprising amount of missions without any pods spotting my crew

Is XCOM AP common enough that I can use it freely, or should I be hoarding the stuff? I haven't used any so far for fear of needing it later

Ravenfood posted:IMO, use it when a point or two is the difference between a soldier being able to buy a nice skill or not, while the bulk of the ability buys come from the soldier's intrinsic AP. Once you get to much higher level and you've figured out your proper A Team based on what skills you have available to them, start going hog wild. That works, I think what put me off was the few times I bothered looking was right after a promotion, so buying a second skill would have been solely with XCOM AP which whoof feels like a poo poo idea. Internet Kraken posted:AP doesn't do you any good if you don't spend it. The most an ability can cost is 25, and that's just the really powerful ones. Most just fall into the 11-14 range. Take abilities you know you can get a lot of use out of (stuff like holotargeting and shredder) when those pop up. Its okay to hoard a bit of AP if you aren't struggling in combat, but there's no reason to sit on all of it. I'm absolutely the kind of guy who ends an RPG with a bag full of unused full-heal items

There wasn't a red eye over his movement preview so I assumed he wouldn't enter their radius, though I can't say for sure that he didn't. Is it more likely that he entered the radius and it forgot to load the red eye, or that he was a tile clear of the radius and they spotted him for some reason? It could be that no one had LoS on the specific civilian, I've had that happen a couple times where I run past, and it turns out there was a third civilian standing just out of sight

He even had a melee vulnerability which is hilarious because I have like five high ranked rangers. At the very least I can be super smug that the Chosen specifically have taken more casualties than XCOM I've only lost a single Spark, although hoo man there's been a lot of panicked sprints to the evac zone carrying bleeding out comrades. The Hunter mission ended with one guy dazed, one guy bleeding out, three people covered in acid, and one guy mind controlled. It was a complete miracle that a ranger's bondmate had a single movement left, and I used it to Teamwork the ranger and loving vapourize the chosen with an axe

Yeah I'm noticing Mox and Elena lagging behind pretty significantly, and I'm still using mag-weapons. Elena's great for scouting, but the second fighting starts she's outputting like, half the damage everyone else is. Mox is still pretty alright, but doesn't quite match my rangers in lethal capacity, and doesn't have a special gimmick besides grappling around. I keep forgetting I have a templar, I usually just throw him on covert ops because I feel bad

The one time I managed to get a 100% on a hack, it's to control a Sectopod It then proceeded to unconceal my squad and activate every single pod on the map including the lost, and Tactical Analysis every single one. It was the most glorious Concealment to FULL CHAOS turn I've ever done. Every enemy had to pick whether they wanted to move to cover or take a shot, and the only enemy they could get a clear shot on were Lost or the Sectopod

Completely blew alpha-striking the King Viper because I forgot he can immediately react when I move, so he froze two of my dudes when I repositioned. He's only got four health now so it'll be a treat when he reappears again. I also uh, started the facility mission with an extra soldier I've never met before. He had no headshot on the hud or anything, and I stepped away while loading to grab some water so I didn't hear if Bradford introduced him, but he had the plasma rifle and armour you'd expect from a rookie. I'm pretty sure I haven't changed any of my orders, and the only new continent bonus is that I get supply drops instantly. Anyone know what that's about?

So is there a way to inflict weaknesses on Chosen? Because I finally found the Warlock and he's packing five strengths and a weakness to explosives, which I rarely use His spectral zombies are bouncing harmlessly off my dozen or so Bladestorm rangers, so at least I got that going on.

I do have a bunch of high ranking grenadiers, but I usually use them for shredding heavy armour. I also have nearly a hundred XCOM AP, so I might have to start broadening my horizons a bit How often do Alien Rulers show up? I've been waiting for that punk-rear end Viper King to show himself so I can finish him off, but the bastard's hiding

Unrelated to my Viper King woes, I had a dark VIP mission, and they were real close to the evac zone, so I stuck my squad in the evac zone, overwatched everyone but my psi operative, and Dominated the VIP. Their escort all immediately died in a hail of plasma, and the VIP sprinted over and left with the rest of the crew. Easy as can be and I didn't even have to pick them up

I feel like mind control is a lot more common in WOTC, not just for Advent but for XCOM too. I always remember mind control being a gamble before but now it feels reliable enough to bank on. As much as you can bank on anything, at least.
