I've also heard MS Autotune does some really dang stupid stuff but I don't have any experience with it. YMMV.

Best way to tune IMO is for peak torque. For timing add it until you stop making more torque then stop adding it. There is no need to bounce off the knock sensor if it's not getting you more torque.
