I'm amazed just how long this race has gone on without a safety car.

Better than the average V8Supercar Bathurst. Not saying much but it was interesting. The GT3 cars are mindblowing thru the Chase and the Bentley the coolest racecar of all time. The last GTR rush really was just how Bathurst usually goes, lead car backs off with three laps to go, second makes futile attempt that looks heroic but is pointless and wont work. Van Gisbergen had clearly switched off and was never going to be overtaken.

I dont think I have seen an incident where all three drivers were legitimatly at fault for the crash at various stages before. -Whincup's attempted overtake was somewhat stupid - Tander was a loving idiot in the middle - he def. contributed to what came next with his stupid attempt at taking advantage of the redress - McLaughan's race re-entry was truly dumb at the end I'll take a bet and say if Tander hadnt DNF'ed, he would have been visiting the Stewards too. Three dickheads trying to occupy the same space.

VikingSkull posted:this is one of those things that I prefer NASCAR for Redress is a perfectly safe rule - it's been applied many times perfectly fine. And it wasnt McLaughan who got the redress penalty for closing the door, like you seem to be saying. Wincup made a move that simply never truly on and caused the initial contact, he realised he was wrong and immediatly and safely slowed - and even went off the racing line. Redress just means you got a corner or two to allow the person you unfairly punted to get back in front on your own volition so you dont draw further stewards ire. What made the redress unsafe was NOT the act itself, Tander deciding to be an idiot trying to take advantage and McLaughan barrelling back onto the track in a dickhead manner. I'd rather watch the first 85 laps of this snoozefest over NASCAR anyway

A four time WRC champion that is universally respected in a team with less budget and resources than anyone else is a mega-fraud, gotcha. quote:I know they were still using a Group A car for like five years after the WRC spec came in Mitsubitsi correctly believed that homologating VO's gave the Lancer as much freedoms as straight out WRC did for much cheaper. quote:When the Group A Formula was abandoned it fell off of a cliff. Group B resonates more with me because of how wacky the cars were. Then you are going to loooooove the 2017 crop of WRC vehicles.

I'm Crap posted:Well, he'd only be a small fraud if he hadn't won four titles, wouldn't he? Seriously though, it took an incredible amount of things going his way for that to happen: Toyota's ban, Colin McRae always crashing out from the lead at crucial moments, Carlos Sainz's constant unbelievable bad luck... what year was it Sainz's car literally died 200 meters from the end of the season? It doesn't deny that Makinen is in actual fact considered one the truly great rally drivers and on a level above McRae and Sainz - Is Loeb a fraud because he had completely inhuman luck and had cars that didnt break down alongside monster budgets? There truth is that what you call "luck" is in fact proper preparation and caring about details, two things Makinen was legendary about *especially* given the lovely budgets Mitsubitshi worked with - and still is today now he's about to bring Toyota into the WRC once again. Plus you know, it's kinda important to stay on the road if you want to win. Calling Makinen a fraud is a truly dumb statement and shows a complete lack of rallying knowledge.

There is video where the spectactor in question is on the side of the road on the outside in a ridiculously risky location. Died of a heart attack rather than being hit but the real question will be what the hell he was doing in such a dangerous location. Utterly no fault on Paddons behalf and crowd control was in place. Its drat near impossible to seal off a stage at the Monte as well Edit : There is a story that the spectactor in question slipped from a higher location. Heart attack rather than impact does seem to be the main cause of death CAT INTERCEPTOR fucked around with this message at 06:15 on Jan 20, 2017 |

Alain Post posted:yeah from what i can tell the main takeaway from this tragedy is "don't stand on the outside of a loving bend when watching rally" Even in an area you think is safe there there two cardinal rules - 1) Put something between you and potential cars 2) Escape route. The corner Paddon went off had neither. The actual video is up on Youtube if you feel like watching it.
