Let me give people some context about how ridiculous this image is to a local, using our old friend, Google Maps. This is Lake Louise. It's a 2 hour drive from the third busiest international airport in the country.

It's easy to drive this highway, it's 4 lanes with a wide median and kept clear all year. It goes right past the lake. 10 minute drive from the highway exit ramp.

Parking can be tricky because it gets really busy, but in winter there should be quite a few empty spaces.

A two-minute walk takes you to the lake.

There is a huge hotel built here, and the trails around the lake are paved and wheel-chair accessible.

There is no reason she couldn't have at least visited some mountains before going, even to just take this picture in real life. It's a loving embarrassment. Not that the Lake Louise shoreline would have done her any good with acclimatizing to high elevations, it's only 5700' above sea level.

It's nice that the backdrop she's photoshopped in front of is very easy to reach for the average tourist.

Check out the book or movie The Eiger Sanction.

The movie has especially good climbing scenes all filmed in the dark ages before modern climbing shoes allowed everyone to be spiderman.

Here is a cool gif of basecamp. Really shows how high up it is when you realize the clouds are right there.

So, what's the easiest 6500+ meter peak to summit?
Bonus points if it has porters I can hire to carry me up in a sedan chair.

Probably aconcagua. It's high but you can get to the top without anything technical and it's reasonably well traveled so there's more logistic support.

Really, even though it's sad she died can anyone honestly say the world is worse off?

Seems like a climber (who's blind in one eye!) sacrificed his summit attempt on the 21st to save the life of another climber who was sliding down the fixed lines.

A Good Person on Everest.

The mountain knows when it got cheated and it will remember. The mountain will win in the end.

Haha, the caption under that photo: "How hard is it to climb Mount Everest?"

loving HARD.

It's pretty hard in the way that climbing a mountain is hard but it's also really hard in the way that playing russian roulette is hard.

I mean it's still loving hard. I'd do it if it weren't super expensive and likely to kill me (which is why I do other outdoorsy stuff instead).

There's not question it's super hard. It's just also compounded by a very good chance you'll drop dead or get stormed and it's completely out of your control.

I actually have wondered if it would be at all feasible to develop a helicopter (or some form of VTOL aircraft) which can reliably operate that high up. It would be nice to have some solution for rescuing climbers from the Death Zone, or at least getting rid of some of the corpses.

If we have a way to rescue people we'll just get more morons on the mountain.

Banff is very nice but there has to be a second nice view in all of Canada.
