The old aircraft photo thread has gone to archives. Airshow season is coming up, and I know some of you fucks are plansespotters. Me, I just occasionally drive through Bossier City and occasionally see the remnants of the Mighty Eighth taking off on practice runs. The good thing about suburban sprawl is that the takeoff/approach path from Barksdale AFB goes right over I-20, the above photos were taken from the passenger window off a car doing 60mph. The one time a BUFF came in on short final over the highway while I was passing through directly under it, I thought the car had exploded and so was too slow getting the camera out. A few weeks earlier, a bit south of casino town, probably civvie since this is apparently the junction for everything in/out of Texas and NOLA:

Please excuse the poo poo resolution, my copies are on a hard drive at the bottom of the pile of moving boxes, so I had to pirate them off smugmug: This was my wallpaper on the office computer. This is from the time I used the big Nikon and my "PRESS" badge to avoid paying admission fee for the rained-out airshow off the clock. The next day when I was on the clock and legit got a free pass, they did a badass thing.

Pablo Bluth posted:Most of what I do take tends to be uneventful plane-against-blue-sky like everybody else at the show, so it' more about enjoying being out with the camera than ever bothering to share what I take.

DJExile posted:drat i love this I'll Yesterday I spent the night in Bossier instead of shooting from a moving car on I-20 (as in the OP). The view from my hotel: They were doing their daily pattern work or whatever it's called, just circling and doing touch-and-goes a couple minutes apart. They kept circling and I went and found a place to park (the back driveway of an RV sales place). This lil' guy hit the afterburner and climbed out over the landing path: Judging from the curtain in back, it's most likely a student shooting an instrument approach and they either hosed up or were only practicing the farther-away part. And now, what you all came here to see, BUFFs up close and personal: (The last one, a different airframe from the others, is smaller because I forgot to swap the crop thingy in photoshop after processing a vertical -- I usually set the shortest side to 1000px, but that'n's 1000 wide) Also a video, because why the hell not: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnYFRoxsKWw Put on headphones and crank up the volume And then I went to the casino just as the sun set: The latter is from a B-52 on the way out, at about the same place as the one pointing to your left in the fist photo in this post. If I'm ever in Bossier for a whole week and not just one night, I'll go to the museum at the base, but I just didn't have the time yesterday afternoon. Also, I noticed once I put them on the internet, time to clean the sensor, or at least get happy with the healing brush, innit?
