Hello thread, and hello storm out of nowhere. 30 minutes ago I got back from buying milk, and it was slightly breezy and clear. Now it's pouring rain and sounds like the wind is trying to tear the roof off. The nearest weather station is about 3 miles away and says 40mph winds, which isn't terrible, but it's pretty windy for the Phoenix area.

That's what I do. The trailer I use (a friend's) has the lever-type ball latch with a hole for a lock, so there's one there. Then you need the locking pin in the ball mount. Would have been nice if Haul had used that time of hitch - with that quick-link that kastein pointed out, locking the chain is more a keep honest people honest thing.

I'm not seeing any way to use that while the trailer is connected to the vehicle, though, so you'd have to unhitch any time you left it. That does have the locks for the tongue latch I mentioned, and the locking ball mount pin.

Way behind on this thread, so this might have already been answered better, but I used to secure my trailer to the truck (and my race-car to the trailer) using various combinations of cable locks and padlocks depending on what worked for each location.

Ibuprofen does nothing for me (except work on muscle issues when used as an anti-inflammatory).

For headaches, the only OTC I've found that really does anything noticeable for me is "Extra Strength Excedrin", which is a combination of Acetaminophen 250mg, Aspirin 250mg, & Caffeine 65mg. Taking two helps my headaches. Generics of this are usually called "Migraine formula".

Luckily I rarely have headaches anymore since I've gotten my blood pressure under control.

Just finished changing the oil in the Focus. Every time I do this I wonder why in the hell we don't have cartridge filters on the top of the engine like my E36 had, that was so much neater and easier. Is there some functional reason that we use bottom filters that are impossible to change without getting hot oil all over your hand and arm?

I have one of the very last of the Sony Trinitron (I think) rear projection CRT TV's. It's friggen huge and heavy as hell. It has the floor stand built in, 54". It's only 720p, which was the best there was at the time without spending ridiculous money.

Not looking forward to either the day it dies finally, or I have to move.

She does over 300# on the weird forward leaning squat machine, and does around 200# on the barbell. It's pretty funny seeing this girl out lift the massively ripped dude's.

I guess we are an anomaly then, as the company announced that it was giving all eligible employees a one-time 401k allocation of a percentage of the employees salary at the end of the year. It's not a huge amount, but it beats a kick in the head.

This sounds like a fantastic way to go insane in a very short order of time.

I've done on call jobs like that, and it's typically fine, because the on call work tends to be rare 'emergency' situations. They don't call you out on a whim since on call typically pays overtime or double time with a 'x' hour minimum (2 hours in the job I did), and time starts from the time you get the call until the time you pull back into your own driveway after finishing the emergency call.

Of course I have no idea if SAC will get the same sort of deal, or if the company he wants to work for is abusive of their on call people.

I guess it's just me, but I kinda hate it, I just never feel like I can 100% relax on those on call weekends, so working it for like 2 weeks straight would drive me bonkers.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to be on call now (I actually turned down a position at my current company because it would be on call 1 week out of 5), but when I was younger like SAC is, it didn't bother me at all and I loved the occasional really awesome paycheck.

Elmnt, that sucks. That's why I'm not management material. Been there done that (in food service and call centers, anyway).

I was prescribed a hydrocodone (Vicodin) once for pain, and apparently I'm allergic to it, as I was on the floor in my bathroom vomiting my guts out (and then vomiting nothing) for almost 12 hours. I'd rather just be in pain, thanks.

Ditto on the managing. While parts of the job were very enjoyable, being responsible for other people just sucked, and I've no desire to do that again.

Pizza chat - For anyone in the Phoenix area, if you haven't tried Fired Pie, you should. They only make single person sized (11") thin crust pizza's, but it's a flat price of $7.95 and you tell them how to make it. You can choose the type of sauce, and how much, what type of cheese, and how much. Same with all the toppings, and they have a bunch to choose from. They'll build it any way you want with as many toppings as you want and it costs exactly the same, and it's really loving good.

They also do salads the same way, but who the hell goes to a pizza place and gets a salad?

What SafetyDance said. The real world doesn't give a poo poo about your GPA. Look at job postings around the world, they say things like "Requires a bachelor's degree or 2 years work experience". Never once have I seen a GPA requirement on a job notice, and if you don't include it on your application/resume, they won't know or care. Exactly. As implemented in the US, chipped cards just take more time without providing any additional security, except perhaps making skimmers obsolete.

They are still more secure because even without the PIN, the cards can't be easily duplicated or cloned, so a thief has to be in physical possession of your stolen card to use it at a physical terminal. Of course that doesn't help for online 'card not present' transactions, but neither does Chip+PIN for that.

Also, the extra time is solvable, some chip terminals that use a good processor are just as fast as non chip terminals, other than the fact that you have to leave your card in the terminal for those couple of seconds that the transaction takes.

It's a neat tool, but I don't make a mess with the drain pan, it's the dumb filter that always makes a mess, and I have to put the car up in the air and take off the underbody stuff to get to the filter, so dumping the oil out the pan isn't any more work anyway.
