I loved Peterhof but then I've always had a soft spot for garish over the top architecture and I am quite an art guy, when I go on holiday I tend to spend a lot of time in galleries and I did 3 days in the Hermitage, so I loved it. I just dont think you can say you wont find deep culture there because you don't like the style of architecture or aren't big on art, its not a taste issue, you can dislike the city but saying there's no deep culture just strikes me as incorrect. Guavanaut posted:Is it? I thought the current law on cakes and discrimination was that you couldn't deny someone a cake based on a protected class. Like if you do wedding cakes with fancy icing swirls, you can't deny me one because I'm marrying a person of the same sex, or because I'm marrying a woman of a different race, or because I'm getting married in a mosque. I was speaking from a personal view there not the legal, I view it to be discriminatory. Political views are a tricky one, something like LGBT rights are a political issue yet I feel should be illegal to discriminate against, but other less so and with something like that the law needs to be absolute, so I don't really know. New Day sounds full facist, like the sort of facist party that would cone to power in a former soviet state. The anti-semitism thing is a very long standing one and there are a variety of historical justifications for it. Firstly its said that when Jews move to a country they refuse to integrate (where have we heard that before) there's obviously perhaps an element of truth to this, I you move hundreds of miles in a large group to a new country you probably would want to stay amongst your own people who's language you speak before integrating more, however by that point you've been ghettoized by racist fucks who wont let you integrate because you don't want to, so youre hosed. Secondly there's the whole money thing, as I understand it and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, historically Christians weren't allowed to lend money for profit its the whole usury thing, big sin but Jewish doctrine didn't consider it such people needed to borrow money and went to the Jews as there was no benefit for a Christian to lend money. Again here comes the resentment of them lot profiting off us because they're sinners, not realising that its not the Jews fault they wouldn't lend money. This is the starting point of the Jews controlling the banks myth. Then in a more modern sense there's Israel, this is simple we all know Israel are a god awful, illegal state who commit mass human rights abuses daily with Britain and Americas tacit support, obviously people don't like this and then conflate Israel and the Jews which isn't exactly kosher. This ties in with the other reasons as people justify our support for Israel as being because Jews control us or holocaust sympathy, I would argue that at the start there was an element of holocaust sympathy its more down to anti-Arabism on our part.

Guavanaut posted:It also falls completely outside of our modern ideas about the difference between religion, nationality, and ethnicity. Are they a race or a religion? If a Jew becomes an atheist or a Christian are they still a Jew? What if their grandma became a Christian, which one is hereditary? Twin that with the explicit references to ethnicity in the Jewish religious texts and it's quite easy to make them outsiders, and it's even easier to make people hate outsiders. I forgot about this point and it is an interesting one, oddly some people have started trying to do that with Christianity and Islam, they are normally extremists and nationalists of some sort referring to a Christian nation and a Christian people, oddly they want the whole world to follow their religion but also don't want to let anyone in, so they errrrr guess kill all the non-believers.
